Which do you think is a better day trip from College Station . . . to the Arbor Gate near Tomball or to Antique Rose Emporium near Brenham? A friend's birthday is coming up and I want to surprise her with a day trip. We've been to Antique Rose Emporium many times, but have never been to Arbor Gate. We go to the local nurseries and to Martha's Bloomers pretty often. Any other recommendations? Thanks for your ideas.
Day Trip for Plant Lovers . . . .
At this time of year I am not sure what the ARE will have, but I know that Arbor Gate always seems to have things to check out. And it is a great place, I've been there numerous times! Another place you might want to consider is Caldwell's....I cannot wait to get back there!
I've never been to Caldwells either! I googled them & they sound interesting too, but further away. I may wait & see how far I feel like driving when we decide to go. We look mainly for native plants but ANY plants are good if we can convince them to grow here.
Thanks!
Just FYI, if you haven't been to Barton Springs nursery in Austin they have a ton of native plants. As well as the Natural Gardener which is in Austin as well. Both would be easy to do in a few hours and would work for a day trip.

:You could aways visit the big city and hit Joshuas and Buchanans (sp?). Not to mention all the antique shops right there in th Heights.Lots of good restaurants too!
Thanks for all the good ideas ladies! I'm going to save all these names and will eventually check them all out. I think for this trip we will either go to the Arbor Gate or Caldwell's. I will be in Houston next month and the Heights is usually a stop for us. We have friends in Austin so I'll have to check out Barton Springs nursery with them. I think the Natural Gardener is one that I have been to . . . lots of natives & succulents. : )
Thanks again!
