Some Pics from 7/19: Operation Save Aggiegrl's Garden!

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

howdy Texas!
you guys would be soooo proud of your fellow Texans! several folks came out yesterday and worked their tails off help to move my plants. they are some great folks. Thanks sooo much to: Beck5711, Smockette, Smock, madrid2000 and Becky's husband for all their hard work! Becky even brought their lowboy and it was sure helpful for getting the plants over to my parents place. Becky is even planning on coming back on Sat with the lowboy. talk about going above and beyond! the NPR reporter came from Dallas and interview everyone. that was pretty interesting! he is going to let me know when the piece will air and then it will be archived on their website so we can listen to it anytime. i will let you guys know when it is available. the main thrust of the story is about this website and all you great folks helping basically a total stranger in need. i think a lot of people dont really understand the generousity of strangers that have only met through the internet. however, i think we all understand that first of all, Texans are a very generous bunch and are willing to pitch in to help someone that needs it, and second gardeners are even more helpful because they understand the passion that we have for our plant "babies". anyway, here are a couple of pics from yesterday. thanks again,

Wow, what an operation! The generosity and kindness of DG members is practically legendary. Wish we lived closer so we could've helped out too!

That is a wonderful thing you guys did, the goodness and kindness of DG members shines through again.

What these volunteers did is no small sacrifice. They, like us have lives to lead, possible health issues, economic considerations, etc. I took a good look at those beautiful women who helped because I know, without a doubt, that these are angels.

Hebrews 13:2-3 tells us: Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I have a special TY for those who did this as in this heat (107 heat index) the day they were there and Gas prices and health it is no small feat.

I have never found a DGer that was less than these ladies and gents who have went beyond the call of duty. Not just Texas but actually the love on here is from worldwide.

antiquedrose how very true.

TY again DGers for a Great Job well done.

Blessings,
Sandy ^8^

I don't know what to say except I wish you had another pix of Beck so you could take that one off!!!!!
To start with, I am not photogenic (sp)! Hair looked so beautiful after having been under my straw hat! lol But about this time, my blood sugar was dropping fast & I was trying to cool off. Notice the blouse up in the back & sandals off. I'm not really a nudist; I just dress for the Texas sun!
I really try to look better when I know I'm getting my pix took! lol
My CRV was full with the 3 of us, pots to the ceiling, shovels, pitchforks, & 6 bags of soil. Beck took the soil, so, we left the pots & if ya'll bring pitchforks & shovels it should go good!
Well, '26ers', we left the rest for ya'll.
We will want pixs of ya'll, too!
:~)

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Want to give a special thanks to Smock! He is not a DGer yet but when Beck wanted him to come, I copied her message & sent it to him. He said he wasn't doing anything that day & if he could help, he would go!

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

You guys are all saints. I admire each and everyone of you. I poop out so fast, I didn't think I would have been enough help. I work a few minutes and rest a lot, it gets done, but it takes me much longer than most. In this heat I know it was hard even for all you slender ladies. A toast to you all!!

Hello All
I hope you don't mind my dropping in from the piedmont of NC. I check out the Texas Gardening forum every now and again because I always can be guaranteed great photos, sage advice, and a lot of good will and humor. I also get to drool over flowers that we can't grow here. It's a win/win situation for me. I don't post because I feel like an intruder (smile). I remember reading a few weeks back about 'Aggie's plight. I remember thinking "I bet they all will help her too" when I read the initial responses and offers to Aggie's post. And YOU DID!!! I would like to say that you all lighten my heart. Also, Smockette - that is a great great photo and I'd kill for your bone structure! Anyway, I don't know where the towns are located in Texas, etc. etc., but I do hear there is a storm coming to Texas and I wish you (and your gardens) safe passage through it all. The 'news' has been so crappy about so many things for so long, that it truly does a body good to read about your big big generous hearts. (I know ...I know... everything in Texas is big!!) Dorothy

Tracie - what about the hurricane scheduled in the next day or two?

Hey, you don't know how much of a foreigner I am. I am a Brooklyn girl living under cover in the South --and italian at that!!

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

you can tell how much tv i have been watching lately, didnt even know about it! between packing the house and moving the garden, dont have much time for anything else. each evening i work for an hour or two and get more dls back in the ground at my parents place. i hope everything will be alright in the bags until i get to them. but, there is not much else i can do. the new beds are in pretty much full sun and the temps are just too high to be out there in the middle of the day.

tracie

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Well, it is looking like southern Texas or Mexico. But, I am not sure how far out the winds/rain will extend. I think right now the circulation is tight so maybe not too far. Anyway, I hope all goes well for you and for everyone. This storm popped up quickly and there is another wave out there close to Africa brewing. I know you must be physically and mentally fatigued trying to tie all the ends together. I hope all goes well and your Saturday is dry.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Linda.. you know I was trying for a butt shot..lol but Ms Tracie wasn't having any of that!!
So far I think thay are saying the hurricane is going in Brownsville.. we are suppsed to get rain though.. and we Texans sure need it!! BAD!!
AWWW Tabitha is always smiling and sooo cute!!
You Northerners might think you don't "belong".. BUT we were all Northerners .. or from somewhere long ,long ,ago... we are all bros and sis's in God's eyes
And.. even in the heat we did have fun...

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Thank you Beck

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

The NPR story is going to air today. Listen to your local Public Radio station to hear it, or go to www.npr.org and put "Goodwyn" in the search engine. It is the first story to pull up under the reporter's name. It will be available on the internet after 7pm tonight.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Popping in from the Canadian and Rocky Mountain forums to say 'YAHOO!! and WELL DONE TEXAS!!!" If only the whole planet had your kind and generous spirits. This is a wonderful happening and I'm sharing it with everyone.

I just went and listened to the story, that was very nice and a fitting tribute to the good will of wonderful people.
It is sad that good news doesn't make out there as well as the bad does.

Hi! I'm a Midwestener checking in to say how great you all are! I was reading an AZ thread about someone who had a 15-year-old crash a car through her fence wrecking a garden and koi pond. Someone posted a link to this thread so here I am. It's wonderful to know that there are so many great people in the world!!!

My warmest (or if you are in TX, my coolest!) wishes to you all!
