I want to save seeds from this but after each bloom dies it falls off along with seed pod. I find them on the ground, soggy from the sprinklers. Is this normal and if so, do I pick them up and dry them? Will the seeds still form this way?
Help-Hardy Hibiscus seed saving
Nope...you have to wait for the seed pods to ripen, they will turn brown on the bush, and you harvest them..they will have already dried, and started to open to drop the precious load...clip them then and store or plant...needs stratification.
"eyes"
Thank you. Pods are still green. Will watch for the brown.
Thank you, eyes. I also asked the question on GW site and someone said that they are dropping off because they aren't getting pollinated so I am going to try to pollinate the next flowers that form and see if that helps.
Those are so beautiful Linda, mine is blooming now too, but I am removing the seed pods so I can have more flowers. I will let the seed mature later toward the end or summer.
Jo, I also have seed pods on the Texas Star. If I remove them while they are still green will the seed still be viable?
Christi
No Christi, they have to be brown and dry, before they are ready.
