Hibiscus Experts - Leaf Scorch? New Plant

Sterling, VA(Zone 7a)

This is a new Hibiscus plant that arrived on Friday (7/18). Two leaves appear distorted and yellowed. Should I be concerned? Can anyone identify the problem? Many Thanks . . .

While I'm certainly no expert, it just looks to me like shipping stress. I'd give it some love and care and it should perk right up for you with some new growth within a week or so. You know, if it's going to be in the sun in your location all day, then slowly transition it out there. Also start now with making sure it has proper and adequate soil and try to keep that soil a little moist. Also give it some light fertilizer.

This is what I would do and have done and mine have bounced back quickly. Of course, someone else might tell you something different. :)

Well, I'm certainly not an expert either, but I agree with Amanda, it's either shipping stress (which happens a lot for me too) or a too-sudden introduction of full sun. Often these plants are grown in greenhouses, and have to be introduced to sun gradually, especially after being shipped over the course of a couple or few days in a dark box. I have a "cooling off" area that is mostly shade. I leave the plants there for several days watering often and misting the leaves, then move them out into the sun gradually. I've even lost all the the leaves off a plant before, and they've come back. Sometimes it takes a while, but I haven't lost one this way yet.

Good luck, and let us know how it comes it :-)

Your advice certainly makes sense--Thank You! I have repoted with a customized hibiscus soil mix and have already lightly fertilized it. I think I may have broke the rule of placing it in the sun too fast and making the existing leaves more stressed.

I'll let you know if it survives. When this Hibiscus grows up, it's going to be "Fantasy Charm."
thanks, :o)
