Hi all!
I just joined DG today, and of course what do I go to- the horse people-LOL! We moved up to northern Colorado last July, and now I am enjoying the joys of horseproofing the garden areas-but that is another whole topic!
Our mare-who is solid paint bred- had a solid foal last year and was in foal to the same stallion when we purchased the 'trio' last October. (Which is why they were so cheap I am sure) Anyway- we got the jackpot in paint coloring with the new one! When she was born she was a lineback dun color with the splashy white up her legs. Now, at about 7 weeks, she seems to be shedding out her baby coat and is turning dark brown? She does still have some light coloration on her hindquarters. Anyone (Jenks-LOL?) have experience with this? I am a long time time dressage rider and so my taste normally runs to TB and warmblood types (we also have my old TB mare who is 22 and a huge Hannoverian gelding) so I have had little experience with what is 'cool' for paints these days.
That said- I am enjoying the threesome tremendously as all are well mannered, calm and quiet girls- and good looking to boot! Minnie Pearl, the yearling, is easily one of the best horses I have ever had- who ever heard of a yearling who will stand tied- quietly- while you groom her from head to toe, and love every minute of it? Maybe I have been around too many TB's for too long-LOL!
Here are some links to photos of Athena on day one:

These were taken when she was only 19 days old- pretty beefy girl- I think:

and here is my hubby with the mare herd- Minnie Pearl (yearling), Athena (full sister to Minnie P), Trouble (momma) and Annie (the TB grand dame at 22)

And a not so great pic of Faust (the Hannoverian-who is almost 18 hands, and Cricket, our 'pony' who I think has just grown over 14.2 hands:(

Nice to meet you all! I will get some pics of the 'horseproofing' I am doing to my planted areas, as hubby refuses to fence out the house from pastures (and it would be difficult and expensive, as well as ruin the view). Makes for interesting gardens- I must say!
