Acorn squash in a container?

Winthrop Harbor, IL(Zone 5a)

I'd like to plant some acorn squash in a container and trail the vines down a long flower bed on the side of the house that is currently covered with mulch. I'm out of room in the garden, and the mulch would keep the squash from sitting on wet soil. How big of container would I need to use? I can't use one of those half whiskey barrels, because my fiance can't stand them. And it's his house...until next March anyway : )

Haven't grown acorn squash in them but have used 10 and 15 gallon grow bags for summer squash, climbing cukes, eggplant and peppers. The black 10 gallon ones are only about a buck and even the white 15 gallon (which last for a few seasons are under $5). Eggplant seemed to like the heat from the black bags, soon as I put them in the plants zoomed in size:

Something else inexpensive you can do is dig a hole in the ground and set the grow bag in there. Didn't want to spend the money on a nice pot for a Brugmansia so it now appears from the road that a Brug grows in the ground Connecticut (Brugs don't...at least not after the first freeze)

I don't have anything that big at home, so I'll take a look around when I'm out buying seeds tonight - thanks : )
