Hi,

I posted this in the plant ID forum and got what might be the right answer already: carissa-grandiflora

Just wanted to double check and see what all you Bonsai experts think?

Thanks!

Carissa-grandiflora is correct. Common name is Natal Plum. They are great for bonsai. They take wiring very well, and trimmed off shoots will root fairly easily. They need to come inside for the winter when temperatures get below 60 degrees F. They like a lot of sun in the summer, and will occasionally bloom a beautiful 4-petaled white bloom.

Thanks so much! I think actually we've decided it is a Carissa macrocarpa from comparing pictures. Still a Natal Plum.

EP; I've a similiar plant that I've in a pseudo-bonsaid pot. (small to confine the rootsystem), and it has faithfully yield fruits like this for me for the last two years. I do move them indoor in the winter. But, in order for them to make beautiful flowers and fruits. They benefit from the outdoor sunlight from early spring 'til late Autumn in my zone.
Happy Bonsaid with 'Carrisa' natal plum.

The fruits are very attractive, the flowers are white funnel-shape trumpet, and fragrant too. The seeds are vaible, I've successfully propagate from the seeds. Watch out for the thorn on the tree itself. :-)
