fish bowls

Lilburn, GA

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can buy round fish bowls from?

I have just heard of tiny gardens. They are irresistible!

I Spider, I know you from the African Violet forum. You can buy those and other great things at Micheal's and Hobby Lobby, etc. My Cleopatra Episcia's love them as well as other Epecia's.

Ooooohhhh...there is a Hobby lobby about 10 minutes from here but I have never been there. Time for a visit!

Thank you Sally!

Walmart- about $5.00 and Hobby Lobby have Bubble Bowls or Rose bowls for about $8.00.
Both will work... trust me...I have tons of them:)

I want to use a fish bowl out in the garden so it will need drainage. Should I try taping the bottom and tap holes in with a nail? Help please. Thanks.

I'm quite sure a nail will just break the bowl. There are special drill bits for use on glass and ceramic... I'd google for directions... some need water around the bit as you're drilling, and you can accomplish that by making a ring of vaseline around your prospective hole and putting water into the ring.

Drat I thought that it might be tricky. Thanks critter.

Yes, use a drill and special "bit." Also, eye goggles. If you use them inside, you can put small rocks first, then a light soil.

I want it outside for wind and h*a*i*l (sorry for swearing) protection. But now I'm thinking I'll just invert the fish bowl over my tiny garden. Will have to monitor moisture needs though for sure. o did I say I was making a tiny garden? I was so NOT going to do this. bad me. I'm going to become addicted. I just know it. sigh.

Hmm... around here, anything under a glass cloche would cook to death in summer. Maybe your garden needs courtyard walls or a little mesh canopy instead?

Oh Dahlianut, you won't be the first one to become an addict. Welcome to our club. If you do decide to drill a hole, just remember don't apply really hard pressre--go easy!!! Slow and easy and it can be done quiet nicely.

Everything but the plants will fly away for sure unless its protected. I have a protected shady spot so maybe I'll rethink it with tiny shade plants rather than sun lovers. Its hard to find a spot in a where you can see something that tiny but I want to have it in a bed as a secret surprise.
