I hope my one hummer finds his feeder!!!!
These are all the plants from my yard that he frequents.
I saw him sipping from cut flowers outside so it gave me the idea.
If he finds it i will remove those vases, quick!

Once he finds it, he will start bringing all his friends. Then you'll end up like me--have to run out and buy more feeders, LOL! I have to fill mine twice a day now--I have dozens showing up and hanging around all day. They fuss at me if I let the feeders get empty.

Well, that one-ups my Hummingbird Island that I planted last year and this! (still with no visitors).

Well done my dear!

A, with all those beautiful flowers, he probably doesn't need the feeder.... good luck

We have one regular hummer at our feeder, but I have also noted that a hummer is regularly visiting the flowers in the garden.

I think that Elaine may have a point. If you have planted lots of flowers that hummers like, there may not be a need to frequent the feeder. I have lots of bee balm, and half a dozen different type of salvias in my garden.

Thanks guys. Its true,Elaine, i feel like i am providing junk food at the organic restaurant... But i want that interaction to be a little closer. I plant the flowers but that's normal. I want to feel what those guys are feeling with a flock of hummers

or at least one you can hand feed!

day 3
Zero humdilldily doo to the feeder. Today i will embellish the area with "hey you"signs
and "nectar this way"
No really, one of the pink streamers is tied at the other end to a salvia my hummer goes to!
Omagosh Penne thats a haven you have there! i love that style of garden that looks like mama nature planted it with just a tad of cultivation.
Ideas for my feeder?

Annie, do you buy sugar solution? I make my own with sugar and water (boil in microwave) Maybe make it very strong for the first few times.
pennefeather, beautiful flowers. hummers and butterflies love my black and blue salvia and hot lips too. Now, if we could just get some rain... sighhh

I have had only one hummer this year - too many nectar-laden flowers for them to hit - they don't need the feeders.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

I have flowers and feeders and still no takers. I only seem to get the fall visitors. I had three on the spring migration.

oh well, I'll do this every year until I die I suppose, hoping that one day they will have found my garden.

Marlton, NJ

The mature males are using my feeders since their filling up for migration but the female is just using the plants.

My setup is alot like yours Annie, lots of great nectar plants close to the feeders.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

They are filling up for migration already??
Wow

Berkeley, CA(Zone 10a)

day 3
6:30 am one unidentified hummer observed staring right at the salad bar,for exactly 20 sec.
7:00 am addition of the "chocolate cake" aka Grevillea "superb", swiped from a neighbor's bush.
Yo,hummers,migrate over here!!!!

Where's the neon sign, LOL! I don't have any feeders but the hummingbirds don't seem to mind. They hit the porterweed mostly, but my black and blue salvia and firebush have just started really blooming so I'm going to keep my eyes on those as well. I planted all my flowers for the butterflies thinking if I got a hummingbird that would be cool, and it seems to have worked!

Maybe all the hummers are down here! I'm having to filling my feeders three times a day. When I sit out on the porch, it's a regular hummerport out there, LOL. But lots of my nectar flowers are beginning to fade in this heat and they just started using the feeders real hot and heavy about two or three weeks ago. I expect when your flowers are about gone, they'll start hitting yours too.

Berkeley, CA(Zone 10a)

ahhh..ok i get it. Supply and demand! Thanks guys,
well i guess I'll take the salad bar down till august.
but the feeder stays!

Annie,

I thought about you today while sitting at dinner. Our feeder is right in front of the window, so that we can see our visitors. I glanced over during dinner, saw a hummer come to the feeder, and then move further right. I realized then that he had decided to drink from the trumpet vine, which is right next to the feeder.

Berkeley, CA(Zone 10a)

aww thanks for thinking of me penne :-)
You nailed it!
what kind of hummers do you have?
A.
