CLOSED: Wanted: pond plants for a small water feature/pond

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

HI there-
I'd love to trade for:
1. water lily or two(preferably the pink, or the tropical blue...I had a sunset colored one once that was really neat)
2. small amount of small duckweed
3. dwarf horsetail
4. water lettuce
5. any other neat water plant I can't think of...lol

I have a tiny three-tier fiberglass/resin water feature/waterfall thingy, that I got really cheap at a garage sale, and just filled it with a trade of water hyacinths. I would love to add some other plants, for variety.

I can bring this into the greenhouse, during winter, so tropicals are fine. They don't have to be cold hardy plants...

If interested, I can send a list of available plants I have for trade to anyone interested in a swap.
thank you
-Taylor

wow...it is filling up quickly!...I told you it was tiny, lol...

here is a picture as of last night...I had picked up some duckweed, and water fern for free as a bonus for purchasing the frogs bit from my local nursery.

I checked home depot for water plants, and they were all very dead and moldy.

I pointed out to personnel that they were dead, and they said they'd have to throw them all away. I asked for the neat containers, but they said no.

Then I asked could I keep a few of the fake flowers(they had silk flowers on top of each one to indicate what you would be buying), and she said I could have a couple.

Made my day! Free pink waterlilies in "constant bloom": :0)

Mittsy-
I may be interested in your pink waterlily, if you have one that isn't too leggy, and is compact enought that it would fit in there. I think I could gather the hyacinths into about three different gallon size pots, and make room for a few more things.

Right now they are floppily free-floating, and taking up a lot of room.

Froggies girl-I appreciate your offer, but not needing those. I want to save room for a waterlily, and some water lettuce. Thanks for the offer, though. Maybe we could trade for something else...

Rosehip-
definite "yes" on the water lettuce. I love that stuff. One came as a hitchhiker on the hyacinth, and reminded me of how much I liked that plant. Which brugs would you like, and which clematis?

Also on the variegated wandering jew...is the one you pictured the one you think I'm looking for, or the pond one?

Dde-Tex-
I'll demail to see what goodies you are dividing...I don't have much room left, but can't help wanting to see what you might have :0)

Here is a picture of it last night, with the fake floating waterlilies in it, lol

This little fella made me quite happy.

I was bent in looking at all my new pond plants, and this toad startled me at first(wasn't expecting a lilve creature staring back at me!). He was taking a dip.

24 hours prior to this, I had only just added water and plugged the pump in. That was quick!

Any of you pond owners know what this little green hitchhiker is? He came with the frogs bit, and I want to make sure he is friend, not foe, before I add him back in...

I may even keep the snails, because I don't have any fish to control the algae. I'd love to have fish, but tried that once before, and the raccoons visited nightly to "fish", and tumped over all my plants each night.

It got annoying, so got rid of it all. Now, I want to try again, ...minus the fish.

and is this little guy on the right some sort of crawfish/shrimp type thing?

There are scores of teensy tiny ones swimming in this little container. I'm sure I've accidentally already added some, but was hoping someone knew about them, also.

Thank you, everyone! This has been fun.

Hey Taylor,
The plant in the picture is a new variegated tradescanthia (w.jew cousin) that grows up right but sends off running
wandering like pups that grow into mature plants quickly themselves. I just took and down loaded a pic of the
Variegated W.Jew we have, it's similar to the one on your wanted lits just doesn't look as glossy to me.

Oh, the little guys in your pond, the first one apears to be a dragonfly larve, and the other small ones are a
form of Brine Shrimp (like you can buy in the pet stores) or something very closly realated.(both are good)

Thank you on the IDs. I may put them in today. I just wanted to wait until I was sure that the water "settled", or whatever.

I just used a hose to fill it, but didn't realize I was going to have living critters in there. I know from my old days of having a saltwater aquarium, the water has a delicate balance.

I'd imagine in that tiny water feature that the chlorine has had plenty of time to evaporate off, by now...

Maybe it would be better for me to add him to the little creek at the back...

I am closing this thread, because I have just discovered that three of the species that I have, and or want, are illegal in my state. I will now have to destroy them, and not get the ones I was wanting.

I am quite bummed.
rats...
Thank you everyone for your wilingness to trade.

Hi Taylor,
Those hyacinth look familiar. LOL Wish I'd know you were looking for other water plants. I could have sent less hyacinth and more variety.
