I think your bird is a Red Crossbill

This site is having technical problems tonight, which is pretty rare, thankfully

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Yep, Red Crossbill. Very rare for one to visit a feeder! There must be a major shortage of spruce cones locally.

I'm wondering if the recent fires in Cal has caused them to seek food wherever they can get it.

Crescent City, CA

We live in the middle of woods on the coast, plenty of spruce and pines and there have been several fires but none real close although the smoke was pretty smelly at times.

What a neat little bird.

here is the next one, notice who is peking around from the back. The crosbeak is a finch so will eat any seed if their preferred is not available

Know this is not a bird, but is just a bit over from some of the feeders.
Think it is a hornet nest. If not a hornet, it is one of that type of insect.

Yikes! Be careful while gardening! That looks like our white faced hornet's nest. Ours are aggressive. Hope yours aren't.

Fox Island, WA(Zone 8b)

That looks scary... thankfully we dont have anything like that here

Orchard Park, NY

Cool bird.
