The attached image is of a pink one online that I edited to make more red, and not of a real Brug. However, I'm looking for a Brug that would be about this color, but not the sanguinea. Does anyone know of anything?

Looking for a Southern Hardy Red Brug ... Help?
The short answer is no.The closest one I know of is pphil's 'Dola'.He took a pic of it next to a coke can and they were close.
Dola ... hummmmm ... do you have that photo and/or do you know where I can get one of those Brugs?
I see that you found Gordo's thread on Dola.Check with her.Good luck 1000 more of us are looking for it too.
add one more ; }
Add me, too!
and me 3... lol
Dola, good luck in your search for a red sanguinea that will survive our heat/humidity. My friend with greenhouses (I call her Mother Nature) can throw something on the ground and it will thrive!! She has tried twice with no success.
Hey Amanda, have you seen this thread here ? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/804880/
Yea..superspot is another approaching a good red...

and there she is on e-bay for you.. I've a few SS crosses going.. but no telling what they will look like if they do figure flowering out.. and cross seeds are available..from some of the German growers.. like Volker..

I wonder what we'd get if somebody crossed Superspot with Dola? Maybe a really red brug or possibly something different...
WOW. Superspot sounds/looks fabulous. I've heard Germans don't bloom much. Can you give any info regarding that on this one?
I find SS blooms very well here in central Florida, provided it gets some shade in the hottest part of the day. The blooms seem to show more of that great red color in the Springtime, though. This is my second year with this cultivar and I notice that the cool-warm weather of spring brings out the color better than the hot does, when it is more of a deep pink. Also, a litle shot of high phosphourus seems to also help with coloration. Last year I got a few red blooms in summer but this year, it seems the best colored ones were in April-mid-May.
This plant is extremely easy to root and around the same time in Spring when the blooms are showing the red, I also notice the leaves tend to get really huge, thick textured, and very dark green. Right now the blooms are dark pink and the leaves smaller and more like my other brugs. No real explanation for this, but it is what it is. I will say that either way, it is a beautiful plant and it is a heavy bloomer. It also handles out heat very well.
Rosalla, Joli, and Angels' Exotic are two others than flourish in our heat provided they get afternoon shade. Of all of these, after SuperSpot, Angel's Exotic is the best bloomer and grower in this hot climate. In fact I'd say it is a tie with SS and the flowers are simply gorgoeus.
I have Dola growing in Central Florida and the coloration pattern is similar to the varieties Brad mentioned above. In spring to early summer the color was very deep and rich. It is in full flush now and the color is much lighter and it is no where close to being red. It is growing beside Little Miss Lili which is in full bloom now as well. Currently LML is much darker than Dola and closer to a deep red.
Dola is a nice plant and has remained pest free too!
I'll take some pics today of the blooms side by side and post tonight.
When I put the blooms side by side I just realized the colors of Little Miss Lili and Dola are very close. I think LML appears darker from a distance because the color travels up the corolla tube further.
In this picture Little Miss Lili is on the left and Dola on the right. As you can see Dola gets a bit of recurve to her as the bloom ages. Both have beautiful blooms and do well in the Florida heat.
Oh, nice! I agree with you about the LML - I think she does appear a slight more red than Dola. Do you know where I can find her?
I know for sure Brenda at SeedSprout.com has it. JT at Countrygdn.com may have it as well.
I like LML too and it is one of the darkest named pinks I have in my collection.
:( No luck either place.
I get my redest blooms from Painted Lady. I have seen Super spot, I have Joli, and Little miss Lily and while they will under cetain conditions bloom close to red none give me a consistant as close to red as Painted Lady does. I have Dola ,but have not had blooms from her yet so I can offer no opinion on that one.
I agree with Brena that Painted Lady gives blooms very close to red.I dont have the other two so have no way to compare them.Dorthea also gets close when the weather is right.
The super spot I saw in bloom was no where near as red as Pailnted Lady gets. I am sure at times if does bloom close to red, many do, but my Painted Lady looks more like the plant you colorized then any others I have growing.
Hummmmm ... that's very interesting! I will have to look for one of those too. Ok guys - anyone wanna donate some land for me to plant all of these Brugs?? ;)
That picture of Freds is most helpful.I wish we had one comparing several of the "almost reds".Of course, temperature, season and soil fertility all play a part.
gone2seed - I agree. This is a fabulous shot. Fred, can you maybe post that in the PlantFiles for both plants so that when poeople go searching for these Brugs they can get a better color comparison?
Great idea ...it would really be nice to see some blooms side by side to compare colours ...thanks for the tip on "Painted Lady' and "Dorthea" ...we are trying very hard to get some nice colour here ...I have crosses of all of these in seeds so information such as this is invaluable ...thanks everyone ^_^
Chrissy ,I have a Dola X seeds coming from Liz anyday now......
No it's a lady in Florida called, Liz Fichtt. I bought them on ebay and she kindly shipped them out here.
I just received my Dola X Morgansene and my Miss Emily McKenzie x Creamsickle...
I've decided to wait till the middle of August to plant the seeds, as our winter in the tropics will be well and truely over.
The wallabies have stopped eating my Angels, as it's raining ,lots of new vegetation for them out in the National Parks.
How's the weather in Sydney?
Brug seed can be mailed to Australia but they must be marked "Brugmansia x Candida",then the cross.For instance;
Brugmansia x Candida
Dorthea x Harlot
Now,we all know that's nonsense but that is what it takes to satisfy Oz customs.
Yep ...lets hope no-one from customs reads these forums :)))))))))
Gone2seed your plants on your website are stunning....if only I lived in the States,I'd buy every single one........

New to the forum........I'll take ANY Brug that will produce for me! Have been trying for years.I see some in town that are spectacular..Have tried probably every one and they all get pooped out after the 1st year. Should I keep them in a pot??
Sarasota Florida (9b)
help.....................and thanx
Hi queenemma,
Start a new post that includes where you planted it, how often you watered, how often you fertilized... anything that will help determine what happened to them. It will help us come up with any advice we have to offer. In your area, unless you suffered a hard, hard freeze, they should grow well in the ground. Any photos you have of them before they kicked the proverbial bucket would help.
thanks and will do!
Queenemma, here in the panhandle our soil is full of root knot nematodes.Brugs do not do well in our ground so we grow all of ours in containers. This also has the advantage of being able to move them around to take advantage of shade etc.One other thing you might check is soil ph.Sarasota is in the "limestone" end of the state and so may need some acidity added to the soil.
