Ooh a baby silkie! Will it stay white? or is a gray one? siblings to follow, I am sure!

My silkies went too broody on me & didn't like to roost. Raccoon finally got them when they snuck out of the pen one time too many to set. Roo finally just gave up (old age) with out his hens...Sure was a bummer, cute little guys. got them by accident. Unmarked eggs from farm who was going out of business due to health -- what a neat surprise that was!

Such a sweet chick, Josh! Reminds me of the day when my little Riley was a chick......sigh.

It is hard with just one Silkie, they are so different from the other chickens that they kind of wander around alone doing their own thing. Riley always has this expression like he just can't figure out this world. Like a small feathery changling. Somehow the chicken fairy's Texas rep has not provided little Riley with a sibling. I've heard she's gotten distracted with ducklings--which I do not believe she is certified to promulgate.

OMG Catscan, LMAO!!!!!

Oh what a cute chick Lucky. Talk about a little ball of fluff.....I love how it's little feathers just poke out all over the place! My DS saw the picture and said, 'now that is one silly looking Silky!' He said it was just TOO fluffy. lol

In the market for chicky nappies now? : )

I'm a Silkie grandma today too! I had four beautiful Silkie/Dominique chicks hatch today. They are sooooo cute. I had no clue what they'd turn out like, but we have two other chicks from these parents, and they are quite a sight. They have black & white barred feathers on their bodies, but then they have black & white barred "hair" on their heads, legs, and feet! One of them is more gray than the other with less barring. Today, I have one silver chick, one gray chick, and two black ones. They are such cute little fuzz-butts!

THAT IS TOO COOL! ISN'T IT A GREAT FEELING?

Here is my baby, "Pearl". She doesn't appear as silver as she is in person.

Lodi, United States

What happened, Josh?

I just lost one of my Barnevelder roo chicks--I left town overnight and the first one to die, did! I have no idea why.

Gate (Rochester), WA(Zone 7b)

OH! I just want to cry! That is awful news.....

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

;-( sniff...

it was my fault i forgot to cover the water which is usualy the first thing i do and i forgot

Lodi, United States

I am so sorry, josh! I've started using bowls of water for my larger chicks because I can't keep them from clogging up everything else--I use the little poultry waterers with marbles for the babies--it is amazing the way they will actually fall asleep with their heads in the water. I would have lost a couple without the marbles. So I haven't lost my marbles--just put them to a better use.

when i am not being stupid and forgetting i use dragon tears i think ther called they are lik a half marble

Novinger, MO(Zone 5b)

I'm so sorry Josh! I did almost the same thing. I had put a bowl of water in the incubator to up the RH at the beginning of the hatch. If I hadn't come back to take the 1st chicks picture, we would have lost him. As I was standing there, he took a tumble right into the bowl. Thank goodness I was standing there. I don't usually like the word dumb, but I felt dumb dumb dumb that I hadn't even thought of that. I won't do that again, as I know you won't either.

I know--I've chucked some pets and had funerals for others.

Congatulations on your Silkie eggs! The CF is still holding out on me....

Gate (Rochester), WA(Zone 7b)

WaHoo Josh! Glad to hear it. The countdown begins!

Pet deaths are really hard to deal with sometimes. I've just had way to many this summer, and were only a month into it......What's up with that? All 3 cats and 2 older banty's. sure is a bummer. Couldn't even bury the cats - raccoons had to have been the one to take them. Next coon I see, is a dead one for sure!

londonderry, Australia

well i have mainly lost chicks this year so nothing majour (yet)
