Have a question. Is it normal for a rooster to start crowing at 2 months? This is one of the roos Ideal sent me with the keets. DH said it had started crowing yesterday and they were hatched on May 14th, making them 2 months old.

Rooster crowing at 2 months
We had some crow at 6 weeks old. So yes, it can be very normal.
wow, that young.
We got our group of PBR roos in May and they just started crowing. Not all the time though like grown ones......but every now and again I hear one.

awesome, whcih breed is it? i had a leghorn that crowed at 4 weeks!
I had a BO that started a 4 weeks also. But the earliest steady crowers have been the Australorps. My husband just called to tell me that my BA are crowing. Duh! They (the crowers) will be gone Friday!
In the soup pot or to other families?
I think to the auction--but I am going to try CraigsList again. I am trying to hold onto everyone until they declare gender--a lot of people want pullets and I would hate to let go of them, but I think I am getting pretty good with sexing certain breeds and crosses--a lot of time it seems to be the tail. The roos start with stumpy little tails and the pullets feather out faster. The tail difference seems to hold until the roos get their sickle feathers--but it is hard to look at chicks from different breeds and tell.
I noticed with my Nankin bantams that two were darker when they hatched--these same two have shorter, less elegant tails. I think they are roos. Nankin roos are darker colored than the pullets at maturity, so it would make sense. I asked the breeder who sold me the eggs if she could sex them early and she said no, but that if I noticed anything to tell her. I just find this soooo interesting!
We should make some sort of chart compiling everyone's obsevations on early sex characteristics of different breeds!
Oh Cat I so agree, I would love to compare. On my crested i thought the early tail feathers ment roos, but if it means girls I am happy as a lark.
Maybe we should start a thread and then everyone can put in their observations and we can keep track of them?
good idea there. so who is going to start it.
I will--but I'm at work right now. If someone else starts it, I will jump in; but if no one does, I will start it when I get home:0)
ok great
Our early crowers were Sebrights, Buff Orpington and Birchin and Blue Cochins.
We ended up with 3 Sebright roos out of the 5 we ordered. Anybody want a Sebright roo?
I have absolutely no idea what breed they are. They are the roos that came with my keets. They look like BOs, but aren't very large. Of course, they are only 2 months old, so they should grow more. If they are BOs, I might (notice the word MIGHT) keep a couple for breeding. Since I will probably get new ones next year, they might not become evil!!
If they turn out to be bantams, they will make very good roasters come October. I will have to wait and see. BTW, some of them have no tail feathers, but I think they might have been pulled out by some of the others. And, they do seem to be kind of aggressive. Or maybe they are just curious. LOL

I have a very pretty un-sexed Golden Sebright--if it were a pullet I might be interested in a roo--however I KNOW tf needs another roo--that girl just can't have too many chickens! (nervous laugh--just kidding!).
Like I said, I have no idea what these are. They do look like BOs, but don't really know. Will have to wait. What do Golden Sebrights look like?
GG

So sorry, Josh.

Sebrights are very curious little birds. Intelligent for chickens. (Shh, don't tell my other chickens)!
i think they look funny
It is because they are hen-feathered. I knew someone who was hen-feathered, they always wore a hat--it was so sad.
yes but there eyes make them look lik they are stoned
I think you have been looking too deeply into their eyes, Josh.
lol i had them before but got rid of them
LOL Catscan!!! "And they called it chicken-loove"!
oh they are so mesmerising
Definitely too deeply and too long.
