Potted herb garden ideas

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm planning on putting in a potted herb garden, in a similar form to this one in this picture , that has strawberry plants in it. Sorry the picture is so dark.

The pots i'll be using are huge though, either 4 or 5 alltogether, I think I have 5 of the l4 inch pots and the bottom pot is about l6 to l8 inches around, short and stocky sort of, it will be flat.

I am planning on making a purchase at companion pllants for a few things, I want to put in some curly chives for sure. thought that would be a neat center plant on one of the pots, and some creeping thymes that fall over the edges.

I also have these plants i'dlike to incorporate just because their newly purchased and I need to put them somewhere LOL

echinacea prairie frost
3 types of roman chamomile , double flowering, the regular roman chamomile and the ground cover roman chamomile
also have some blue curl Rue i'll be sticking in there.

This is not necessarily a culinary herb container garden, but rather just herbs in general that don't grow really tall. I need some ideas though.

before I make my purchase to get the rest of the plants.

thought i'd put the echinacea in the very bottom center and plant small stuff around it.

oh yeah, and I would love to have everything perennial so I don't have to pull it out in the fall .

The bottom pot is l6 inches so not much bigger than the others, I think I can fit the echinacea and the blue curl rue in the bottom pot since they grow the tallest. I kind of wish the rebarb was bent some kind oflike those ones you buy so you have more planting room in the pot LOL oh well, doing with what I have here.

oh wow! what about golden lemonbalm, I have some variegated, but I transplanted it last year and now it's not variegated any more. not sure what's up with that.

I also found some lavender in pots still and some dropmore nepeta , it stays small but I think it would still over take the whole pot in time. I may be able to stick something else in with a lavender plant ha?

I also thought about pennyroyal but I've lost mine twic enow and decided it wasn't perennial here in zone 7 LOL although it says it is it doesn't seem to come back for me.

I can't help you Kathy Ann, I know very little, if anything about herbs. But your idea sounds like a good one and it should look lovely in that planter in the photo. I do have some oregano if you want some. Also, some of that "chocolate basil" that wasn't chocolate basil but I know you don't want any of that--LOL. I have some of that mint that Sheila gave me, too.

I've got all those , better watch that oregano, it will take over where ever you plant it.

I think I found enough things to go into the pots, but thinking the rue will get too big in that bottom pot,

it's gonna be slow growing for a while in there cause of this heat, should have started it this spring.

I got the oregano from the same lady who gave me the "choco. basil"--now I know why she wanted to give it away! LOL
