I don't mean to bring a huge downer into the mix, but I found it very interesting how meaningless terms such as "free range" are in reality. All the more reason to get a few hens, I think.

Wonder what I should stick on my cartons? Farm fresh, cage-free, organic, fertile eggs from happy chickens?

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

i use Happy Healthy Hens. cna't claim they are always all fetrile... don't bother with organic... FARM FRESH, FREE-RANGED anything else is just empty words, huh?

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Happy Healthy sounds good to me. Gave mine fresh green beans and mac and cheese today OH gosh, it was like a frenzy of peranna's (sp?) in there Oh and a slice of homemade yeast bread.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Don't feed them onion peelings! Unless you like onion flavored eggs. This happened to a lady at our market.
We use "Free Range". People seem to understand that. Our hens are in a building & can run in an outside pen at their leisure. We feed a commercial egg mash & scratch grain.
No rooster, they just beat up the hens!

I tried to give mine chicken soup from a mix--we didn't like it, they didn't either:0). But they were very excited until they tasted it.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

You make chicken soup out of chicken, don't feed it to them ! LOL!

What is in the chicken soup feed ?

Have a Great night!

cannibal chickens... just what the world needs! ;}

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

hi brig, you know what you need??? see the more temptation thread, i beg of you!!!

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

TamaraFaye, you get the International Enabler Award. How much is the chicken fairy paying you, anyway?

My very nice neighbor told me he'd help me build a chicken coop, and the local extension agent may hook me up with some hens. NO ROOS! I live in a neighborhood and I won't do that to the sweet people (retired) who live around me! But I'm aching to get some chickens. Hmmm. Pets with benefits!

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

those sweet retired people will want your eggs, so you had better get plenty... did i mention assorted laying pullets are available next week? when hatching season is over i will need a new enabler hobby...

Lodi, United States

I'm pretty sure there was very little actual chicken in this soup--it was from an envelope and endorsed by some famous nutritionist. The chickens didn't even want the noodles. I got it from the clearance bin......

Tf--what are you going to do when the season closes? Maybe you could become a sales rep for the hatcheries--you could retire on your commissions from this year alone!:0)

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

dream on. maybe i will be so busy selling eggs i won't notice...

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

We need more hens! I could have sold twice as many eggs as I had today & that was after I ran out & took the display down.

May go looking.
