Need y'alls help in indentifing what is killing my neighbor's holly hedges, climbing rose & shumardi oak! I went to bring her some cayenne peppers & as we were talking I noticed the hedge on the side of her house was dead & her sister next door hedges were doing the same thing & we started looking at her shumardi oak in the front yard & dang if it isn't dying too & her climbing mini roses. She is supposed to send me pics to post but the best description I can give is it looks like somebody poured baby powder on them & I know she doesn't overwater her plants. The oak is showing stress in the new growth & has powdery white looking mildew on it & brown veins on the leaves. And it appears to be affecting only parts of her landscape like it is windborn as a hedge, rose bush & hardy hibiscius near these plants show no sign of disease but they are sheltered from most wind. My big concern is my yard is straight across the street from her & my shumardi oak is only 2" thick & 8' tall & I have multiple plants in my front & back yard & don't need this in my yard. Help me indentify & what preferably organic solution there is to this problem quick DGers before all my DH's hard earned money goes kaput! Thanks for your help & y'all have a good day, Carol aka Catss P.S. For "Eyes" I haven't forgot about you - it's been a rather wild week here! I accidently posioned myself de-flea,de-worming & de-miting my cats & the neighbor's - 21 total & 1 pair of surgical gloves wasn't thick enough (cats pretty much had them shredded by the 3rd one anyway...LOL) & spent most of the week in bed sickier than a dog - learn something new everyday - if it says wear gloves - wear the darn gloves! Dmail me - I still have those plants for you.
Help DGers! My garden is in danger!
I did some searching online for white powder on plants and here are a few links I came up with as I am no expert but thought it might be something that could help ya

Thanks Mibus2 - the links helped a bunch. That's exactly what it is & know I know what to do thanks to you. May your garden be as beautiful & bountiful as your heart, Carol aka Catss
I hope things get better for your neighbor and it protects your place I can only imagine a loss like that ...I've only been here a year but most everything I have I have gotten from some wonderful Dgers at RU's and would just die if I lost it all.
glad I could help ya out!

That was going to be my guess too Carol...go to Dennard's and get the Neem Oil...just a side question...any Zinnias or Marigolds around there...they are highly susceptible to powdery mildew, but you can treat cut them all the way back, and they will come back healthy and strong.
Listen kiddo...just take care of first things first....see ya soon.
"eyes"
Thanks Mibus2 & "Eyes" - no I don't have any Zinnias or Marigolds but neighbor down the street has tons so I'll warn her too. And "Eyes" feeling much better this week after the little run in w/ the cats (though I think I'm now de-fleaed,de-mited & de-wormed for the rest of the summer - God I feel stupid getting that sick from doing that but I don't know how they expect you to hold a cat w/rubber gloves on - like holding a greased pig..LOL & apply this flea product - might have to watch a video demo on that ) & your Datura is doing fine & will try to make it to "Toadsuck" this week. Have a good day y'all & thanks again for the help, Carol aka Catss
Carol,
Please call poison control to see if there's anything to help you out after being poisoned recently. I hope you're feeling better.

Thanks antiquedrose for the info - feeling much better now but was feeling really cruddy for a couple of days there (know now why cats hate the stuff - Revolution works great on cats but if they feel like I did afterwards no wonder they run - oh the chiggers & patch of posion oak didn't help out the situation alot either - darn things made me find them in the field out back & it wasn't fun - next time will pay vet to do this! Now know the meaning of the saying " The cheap become the expensive"...LOL) & have to see doc next week for annual check up so I'll have him do some blood work to make sure I got it all out of my system. Oh by the way sprayed my place down & I appear to have no damage from the powdery mildew but neighbor is going to lose all the hedges around her house & her tree is about 50/50 right now - boy that stuff spreads quick - 2 weeks ago she had a beautiful yard & next week they are having to tear most of it out but it's mostly hedges & trees as she is not a big gardener - hey but her Daturas made it fine! Thnaks again for the help & concern - DGers (especially Texans) are the best! Happy Gardening y'all, Carol aka Catss
