Vine Question

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

A vine started growing in my butterfly garden. I have been unable to control it and it is killing everything in the small garden. Have any of you had the dreaded Kudzu vine. I am hoping this is not the Kudzo. I have looked online hoping to identify the leaf shape, but so far, can't say that I have actually been successful. I have not taken a picture of it, but will try to do so.

you probably have the wild morning glory (heart shaped leaves) or else grape vine.
Both of these are usually gifts of the birds.

Sure it's not some wild morning glory? Byndweed?

Posie ~ I'm not sure where Mansfield is but yes, there are some sites of Kudzu in this area of east Texas. It has beautiful leaves, large shaped and later in summer it will have sweetly scented drapes of purple blooms. That is the charm that has gotten it into many gardens. Woe be onto the gardeners tho... it shades and chokes out all life underneath it. Hard to describe but an identifying factor is the leaf joints... where the leaf comes out of the vine, it seems to wrap under the vine and then up. Birds spread this plant as well.

Please, if you can, post a photo. Maybe we can help with an ID.

If you've ever been to Tennessee, Natchez State Park...you will never forget it...I did a full body check of every passenger in our vehicle, before we ever left the area....Get it out of there now, and burn it!!

Posie ~ are you out there? Was it Kudzu... has the Kudzu overtaken you? Oh dear!

I apologize for not getting back to all of you. I left work fairly on time tonight - just got home. We have been working awfully long hours, even on Saturday and Sunday. As one of my co-workers said, "It is terrible that we have to go to work and not to church on Sundays."

Thank you so much for the links to pictures of Kudzu. I definitely don't have Kudzu. The leaves are more heart shape. As soon as I charge up the camera battery, I will take pictures and post. I noticed that there are little round balls on the vine now, so it might be wild grape. Think I will do a Google search for wild grape.

Eyes, I am thinking of burning it out even if it is not Kudzu. It is fast growing, too, and has killed all the plants in my butterfly garden.
