Hi,
I have just noticed that one of my small streps is wilting. Its leaves are getting a darker green colour.
I have been watering it to make sure it doesn't get too dry.
What could be the problem? thank you.:o)
strep is wilting
probably overwatering..........put it on some paper towels and get the excess moisture out.....sometimes I just use a dish towel...........
Thank you Gail.:o)
I always over water and find myself with all the plants on towels until they can go back to their original home! good luck.....
Gail, do their leaves get all dark green and wilted, like they need watering?
Thank you for your tip. I put it on top of a paper towel. It has never looked really good but now it is looking poorly.
I hope it survives.
You can put it back under the lights and or in a window again. The dark green leaves are what mine look like when they get overwatered. I only leave them on the paper towels for an hour or so............
Also, learn to pick up a pot and see if it needs watering. You can't always tell by looking. Pick it up and if it is very light feeling, it needs watering. If it feels wet, I promise you it is wet.
good luck
Maybe someone else can add to this.........I don't know whether to tell you to repot or not at this point..............
Thank you Gail.
The pot it was in has very small holes at the bottom so i will repot it and use another pot.
I had a look at it. The soil is just slightly humid but the leaves are still dark.
I hope it survives.
If you are really worried, I call putting it in a zip lock bag the intensive care unit for all gessies...............keep it under lights or some kind of light in the zip lock .......
Thank you very much Gail. I did that and it is now in intensive care.
DH drowned my big strep the other week, and now it's trying to recover from root rot... just like with AVs, wilting can be caused by not enough water or by not enough water getting to the leaves because the roots have all rotted away from too much water! *urk*
Critter, if you have any other ideas, please tell her. I am just guessing at this point.
Hi Critter,
How are you? It's lovely to see you after all this time away from the forum.
Gail, your guesses sounded just fine to me!
Spider, I'm doing fine! Having a busy summer, so I'm afraid I'm mostly an occasional lurker here these days... trying to get over here more regularly!
How are you & all your critters doing?
Well, at the moment i am not allowed to rehab any furry critters as my son is very allergic to fur and is on allergy shots every week.
I have had some birds, mainly house finch conjunctivitis, hypothermic squirrels (after being stuck to drain pipes for days), a snapping turtle that was hurt by a lawn mower. I think that's all I have had this year.
I will have to wait until Erik gets better from his allergy. It is so bad that I have to shower my dog at least twice a week, and he has very short fur. If he was a furry dog i would have to give him away.
People still bring me the odd critter though and I still care for them and release them after they are healed.
What have you been doing?
If you love taking care of God's creatures, read this thread. It is so interesting and exciting.
Now let me see if I can do this hyperlink thing........

Oh, that's so hard on both your son and you, I know! Those dang allergies are just the pits. I hope the allergy shots kick in so he doesn't have trouble with it any more! *hugs*
