Lady Margaret

Anderson, TX(Zone 8a)

This was labeled Lady Margaret when I bought it & the blooms so far have been what it was supposed to look like...this was turned out different than the previous blooms...

That is a very pretty bloom. I noticed the leaves look a lot like my red passion flower. I am trying real hard to root the red passion flower. None of the cuttings have rooted yet.

I have Lady Margaret, and it looks nothing like the one pictured. Perhaps someone will come along and give you a positive identification of what you have - it's lovely!

Many passionflower vines will throw out an odd flower every now and then. It will probably not do it again, but if the same shoot produces more like that, you may want to try to root cuttings of it, as it could be a sport.

I just making sure I understand, did you say all flowers have been normal except this one?

Anderson, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, they've all been the typical "Lady Margaret" up until this one...

San Diego, CA

Is it full size? It almost looks like it opened a couple day's too soon.

Anderson, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, it was full sized...it folded up really early that evening...I'm not at home for a few days to look at it...

San Diego, CA

Sometimes, I've seen cool weather effect a flower so that the colors are not yet developed, but that isn't the case here. You may never see another one but at least you got a nice pic of this one.

Look at the leaf under the right side of the flower. One lobe goes to the upper right, one to the lower right, and one to the direct right.

As I said, I have "LM" and this vine's leaves don't look like the leaves on mine - LM has the leaves of P. incarnata - they just don't look right (to me) for LM.

lol, I saw one at the nursery today, a nice big 5 gal. plant and the leaves looked identical. The one I have is in a smaller pot and the leaves aren't as fresh as this one, but even that one looks pretty much the same.

Kinda off the subject but how cold hardy is lady margarite? I have one in a pot and am wondering if I could plant it outside.
Pretty flower by the way.

Zone 9a with heavy protection.

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

mine got hit by frost this winter but came right back

Molino, FL(Zone 8b)

Hmmm... Probably wouldn't make it then. I might try it though with a rooted cutting I have. Maybe the roots would make it.
Thanks

I got the information from a web site - I always say 'TRY IT - ya never know'!

I have Lady Margaret here and successfully overwintered it. I mulched the socks out of it with pine needles and surrounded it with terracotta pots in an attempt to keep it a bit warmer. It wasn't a particularly bad winter here, but we did have freezing temps...I guess my thought was in the nothing ventured vein, lol! It did make me hover since it came up rather late. Paying me back now since it's getting ready to bloom.

Molino, FL(Zone 8b)

Well if it made it in zone 7b I'm definitely trying it. Thanks.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

I'd bet, if you planted it on the south side of your house, protected by the house's foundation, it will be just fine!

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

I like your spirit, pestee..:-) Good luck with it. It's a beautiful vine!

Fair Grove, MO(Zone 6b)

Jessaree, no matter what the cultivar name is I sure wouldn't throw rocks at that pretty bloom. It is very pretty.

I wish my LM was doing as well as yours is.
