What kind of snake is this little guy?

Murphy, TX(Zone 8a)

Found him in my pool this afternoon. He wasn't there on purpose, so I moved him to the grass and let him go. But first I took a photo, so I could ask you folks for an identification.

From looking at my Field Guide to Texas Ssssssssnakes book...he looks like a Texas Brown Sssssssnake.

Found a snake site online that verifies your pick. It's a harmless little Texas Brown Snake. Glad I saved him. He eats snails and slugs! I put him into a damp section of the garden, where he can happily chew on bugs as long as he wants.

Did it mention that the live-bearing births occur between mid-June and 1st week of August? Litters of 3 to 27 young? Uh....Don't swim at night without the lights on......
Seriously, we bought a Texas Monthly field guide 15 yrs ago..and it's been well worth the investment.....for us and the sssssssssssnakes. I'm no longer skittish about turning over rocks, etc. Never thought I'd be okay with peacefully co-existing, but I've adapted....except for the 2 ft coral that we killed last summer in the front yard................

I'm glad he's harmless. He's surely a cute thing and I don't like snakes!

Cute??? As long as he stays on his side of the garden...and me on mine!!

I've learned to never pick up one with my hands. I was showing my DGS one, and it did whatever they do, and the smell was unbelievable. I scrubbed and scrubbed... Learned my lesson in a big way!

Snakes ain't cute! they slither and are usually silent and all of a sudden they are THERE! That scares me and I don't like being scared.....
