When I ordered new stoppers, they came with a small metal ball inside. The hummers didn't seem to feed as much with this kind. With the old ones, however, I have major problems with wasps gathering at the drips of solution. Any solutions?
Problems with hummer feeder
I don't know if this will help any but when the bees and such start taking over my feeders I use a light coating of PAM...there is nothing for them to hold on to so they can't land. Hope that helps.
Interesting...I never knew about that.
I haven't seen very many bees this year...but on previous years I used to make up a batch of really sweet nectar and set it out in pie pans at the top of the far corners of my fence. That usually kept the bees out of the yard feeders.

Cat,
You didn't have trouble with fire ants finding that? I've been afraid to try the butterfly brew because I figure I'd have every fire ant in the country crawling all over it.
Never had fire ants on brew / bait stations or any of my hummie feeders. Most of our local butterfly parks also have butterfly bait stations and hummie feeders and I've never heard of fire ants getting on those. We do see those tiny yard/house ants on them at times though.

Hmmm, might have to try putting some out. I've never tried it because the fire ants get all over in my flowerbeds--they've even killed several plants. I even have to put fire ant poison under my compost box to keep them from nesting in it!
