I posted this in propagation and got no answers so I thought I'd try here.
I have a carrot that I think is going to seed. My daughter planted them last summer. Too late for them to do anything and not really in a great place, but she really wanted to plant them. So, we left them over the winter. Some of them turned into carrots this year. She was impatient so they were small but carrots. I would normally just let it seed and see if it self seeded, but I don't want them there. I'm not worried about them breeding true, just edible. I figured this would be a good way to show Sage how to grow a plant from plant to new plant.
So, first is this going to seed? Second, will the carrots grow from seed off the plant, they were commercially bought? Third, how do I collect and plant the seeds?
Carrot Seeds?
I have no idea (my guess would be yes it's gone to seed) but that's a pretty name for your daughter! And how fun it must be for her to get to garden with her mom. :o)
Most outstanding - that your daughter is interested in growing things, there is in fact hope for the world yet. Everyday I am amazed by something. That is fortunate because it is both a blessing and a curse.
Sorta like my garden, but not that much of a curse!
She's actually my step-daughter, so I can't take credit for the name. But, she does like to grow things. She has the carrots, a pumpkin at my Mom's and a little thing of grass that she grew at school. I'm hoping to get her involved in my herb garden I want to put in. She also wants to sell things, so I was thinking I could make up herb mixes and let her sell those to her friends families. Better than some of her ideas. She's only 7, so there is only so much that she can do, but I keep an eye out for things she can help with.
There was a recent article that I thought would be a good project to get kids to get in on as they would have fun doing it & have a result that they could point too. Let me find you a link and would like to know what you think ( I did not write the article but was impressed by it ).

there it is, may make for an interesting afternoon.
That is cool!
zhinu, do you have your herbs yet? if there's a way to send you cuttings or even chunks of what I have, let me know and I'll send them to you. I'm going to have to thin mine out somehow anyway.
I need to figure out what I want. I think that's my "project" for today. I'll let you know when I figure out what I'm looking for.
