My rope hoya has these white spots on some of the leaves. The spots are irregular in shape and are surrounded by black then healthy growth. They don't seem to be spreading. A problem? How to heal?

pictures?
Yes, a visual sure would help to identify the possible problem. My first thought was sunburn, then when you said surrounded by black I thought fungus, but I really have no idea ... a photo of a damaged leaf would help.
Is the spot white??? like a paper towel ? or a light color like an insect bit the leaf? Sometimes bugs can do stuff, make a bite or drill a hole...the bite mark dies and the area around it can become necrotic...or...get a fungus. Is it just one leaf or the whole plant?
No pictures avaliable. It is a white spot on some of the leaves, like a paper towel color. I think if if was sun burn it would be on more of the plant but it is only on a few leaves and this is a good size plant.
I think a picture is a necessity to know what it is. But if your plant is healthy, I guess just leave it be. I don't know what advice we could give without seeing a picture!

What I would do in this situation is 1) rinse the plant with a strong spray of water, being sure to get under the leaves and into crevices; 2) apply alcohol to the affected spots in case what you are seeing is mealy bug; and 3) consider dosing it with BATS. In case of sunburn, none of these will help, but they won't hurt either. HTH

Good advice, Barb.... The only thing I would watch is the black around the spots. Is it soft? You might spray with a multipurpose fugicide...or/and just watch them that they don't grow.
Thanks, i think it is a fungus of some kind and will try washing and then spraying with a fungucide. Sorry, I am such a ludite when it comes to photography. I still only use a film camera. One day I will switch, maybe.

I understand your love of the film! I still use my old Fujica, which is as old as me. However, when I develop my film I ask for a picture CD also. Then I just download the CD onto my computer and share the pictures. Perhaps you already know this!!
Or, do you develop your own film?
Garage saling this summer has shown me there is no excuse to not have a digital camera, they are showing up for dirt cheap in garage sales.
I don't think it's only about money - some find the switchover hard, or they just prefer to stick with film. I remember being scared to even learn the internet when it first came out.
To each his own - if you guys are comfortable with film, stick with it!

Oh, I want a digital but I am saving for a good dslr and until then I will use my film which I do like. I most likly will not give up film but I really like slr digitals.
