My new visitors!

San Gerardo de Rivas, Costa Rica(Zone 12b)

I was so thrilled today to get a small group of about 6-7, Sulphur-winged Parakeets (Pyrrhura hoffmanni) in my back garden! Now I'm living in their habitat/range and I hope they visit again! Photo is not so great, but it's the best I could do today, using my maximum zoom.

Beautiful picture -- love to see the parrots in the wild. I'll bet their are hard to see in the trees being entirely green like that.

Funny, I didn't even notice their camouflage before! They are quite rambunctious actually and that's why I went to see who was making all the noise. I knew it was something new, lol! Even while they were eating the fruit on that tree, they were chattering back and forth and jumping from branch to branch, so there was no problem seeing them, and they weren't at all shy. When they stayed more in the centre of the tree, they did blend in pretty good with the bark and leaves etc. It's really cool to see parrots not in cages I think!

Nice back garden you have too vanillaman! The parrot looks surprised! What are the berries hanging on the tree?

Sorry Wallaby, I haven't been around for a couple of weeks. I'll track down the name of that tree. It is very common here and grows everywhere. No one cultivates it because it's not considered "ornamental". It does attract a lot of birds however. The bark is very rough and cork-like and it flowers and fruits along the branches.

Yesterday morning, about 6AM I saw a fat fluffy birg with a large head by the fence by my bedroom window. I didn't get a pic. It was a very light grey, and was a good bit bigger than a quail would be. There were 2 of them. As I watched, a bird looking exactly like a mocking bird, only with more brown, started feeding them. I have no idea what they were, their heads were way bigger than the mama! Any ideas?
