Headset for Skype or just camera?

My computer is an older Sony Vaio laptop. Just received gift of a clip on camera for using Skype & is compatible with Windows 2000 that I have.
Unsure about all of this:
In downloading Skype, where do I store it? Desktop?
Do I need a headset in addition to the camera?
You are all so helpful, I know you'll clue me in!

Just found out I don't have enough RAM to run the Skype system, so will return the camera and wait until I have a newer computer
