I have wanted Hoyas forever and my sis gave me a cutting from her hoya. I checked it today and I see new growth! don't know the variety but it has longish green leaves with silver speckles. I can use all the advice I can get! I am rooting it outside in the shade. I had to replant it as the top was planted too high at first. It seems to be sprouting quickly since I replanted the cutting deeper.

L4ever...check out the sticky posts at the top of the forum...they are good and the links are really good too. You should find more information than you ever wanted to know!!!

Lav, I too have wanted hoyas forever. I got lucky yesterday when a really nice man sold me his collection...16 plants! Since I know very little about them, I've been using the links on the sticky posts to try and verify ID's. He knew them all, but alas didn't put markers in the pots and my memory ain't what it used to be! LOL
Maybe we can be newbie hoya buddies :)
Thanks to Carol and everyone on this thread for all the great info. I've been lurking for months and have learned a great deal!
There is some terrific information and pictures for IDs on Christina's site... www.myhoyas.com Also...IDs are never infallible and even if they are correct today, they may not be correct tomorrow!!! Pencils are better than pens on ID tags!!!! Also...when you read HOW people grow their hoyas and WHERE...take into consideration where they live and what their environment is like.... Hoyas are tough and very forgiving!!!! Have fun!!
post some pics of your new collection!
L4E...looks like you have one of the H. pubicalyx hoyas....they look much better in lower light.... Nice plant!
I still haven't had a chance to photo my new collection but will try to do so soon. I really would like to be able to identify my new treasures. Is there a good book or paper catalog that someone can recommend? Since I know next to nothing I'm having trouble using some of the sites on the sticky. I don't know where to start! Maybe if I could leaf through some pictures to narrow things down...like when I see an unfamiliar bird in my yard.
Some really good info and photo's at Myhoyas.com: http://www.myhoyas.com/index%20ENG.htm - click on the letters in her Hoya Album on the left side of the page and then on the photo of each hoya listed for info on that particular one. Christina is a DG member and contributes to this forum. She has some awesome hoyas! I have to visit her site often just to look at all the beautiful plants and get my hoya fix! ^_^
oh gosh thanks for that link. All I can say is WOW!
