Honest go God, we've watched storm after storm pass us by here at my house for the last month. It's been at least that long since we've had any rain at all.
But we're getting it with a vengeance now!! I be so happy!! :)) I want to go out & do a rain dance, but the lightning is a little too severe for that. lol
We have a low chance of rain all week - hooray!!
Rain, Rain, Rain!!
Did you get any more since the day you posted?
Not a drop here for the past two weeks. OK, I take that back. We had a drop about 10 days ago, less than 1/10".
Rains at my office. Rains downtown. Won't rain on my garden! Sigh.
Deb
We had a really good rain two days ago. It rained for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. It was our first in 2 months. We got a little sprinkle yesterday. It is thundering off in the distance. I am saying a prayer for a shower tonight.
Smokey
We got about an inch tonight down here Deb...just in the nick of time! It was getting really dry...
7/10" here and it was so very welcome.
Sorry I didn't get back sooner - a t'storm knocked me offline for quite a while.
We've had rain every afternoon/evening now!! HOORAY!! About a total of 6"-8" from what I'm dumping out of various containers around the yard (so no mosquitoes). I don't have a rain barrel & am cursing myself out for it. :( Doesn't look like we have any more coming in for a while now.
Yesterday afternoon I noticed a TON of new fire ant hills! They love this weather for breeding. Gotta get out the chemicals in the next few days now.
Yay! Stono and Ardesia got rain, too.
AndD Newbie - wow - 6-8"?! Golly. :)
We got another 1/4" today, making a total of 1.5" in the past 2 days. Ahhhhhh!
If I don't have to water when I get home from work, I don't know what to do with myself!!
Deb
No kidding! I was like, "Wow, I can do something else today besides water!! :))"
I have a lot of things to still plant for a new, large bed I'm working on to be ready for fall & got some repotting done that desparately needed it. With all the rain we had this week, I don't have to water much of anything for another couple of days. :))))
We're getting hit pretty well tonight.
Sure makes a nice change. :)
It does make a nice change after the past few years, Deb! Just not enough of a change. It comes too fast and furious to do the plants much good. I think most of it runs off. Amy spotted a Persicaria I was growing at the GH, and decided she had the "perfect spot" for it in the garden. So I agreed to donate it. The hole I dug for it was bone dry---after 2" of rain in 3 days and artificial irrigation. And I mean "bone dry"! I couldn't believe it. I think the recent drought has driven the ground water level so low that the surface water from recent rains can't contact / reach it it just runs off..which means our plants are still facing "drought conditions"...
True. I think it's more the soil is just so dry it can't absorb water very well and the only thing that will change that is days or weeks of rain. Slow rains off and on. I'm sure the first wave of rain we got was just to hard to sink in. Now it's raining off and on fairly lightly which I hope that keeps up for a while.
We had 1 1/2 ' last evening and most of it did run off because. like the night before, it all came down in a few minutes. Wouldn't a few days of slow drizzly rain be lovely?
Stono, what kind of Persicaria are you planting? I've tried two and each one was more invasive than the other. That is another one of my stupid gardener tricks I am still dealing with.
