mystery bugs

(Annie ) in Austin, TX(Zone 8a)

My morning glorys, daturas, and sweet potato vines all have lots of small holes in them. I checked everywhere for bugs and couldn't find any. I sprayed with Neem. Still have little holes appearing. I started thinking of what would come out at night and put out Sluggo Plus to try and get the snails and pill bugs. Still am getting these little holes. Any ideas? Thanks,

No help here, but you might try a garlic-pepper spray to see if that deters the pests. Do you have any pics of the damage? That might help identify the bug, too.

Wow, I'm not seeing any of them. They are very good at hiding. I guess I will have to research what to use on them since Neem isn't doing it. Thanks.

I'd bet it's snails. I don't know why, since we haven't had any rain to make moist conditions, that the snails are so bad this year. They're eating everything I've got. I've put out Sluggo, but I don't think it works as well as some of the other products I've used in the past. At least it's not a poison, so more environmentally friendly. I'm reapplying on a regular basis and it seems to be helping some. I've even gone out early in the morning and hand picked them. Ugh! Not pleasant. The damage you have certainly looks like snails. Try checking very early to see if you can spot them before they return to their hiding places for the day.

I have used Deadline to protect my Hostas in the past and it seems much more effective then the Sluggo. However, I have widespread plants getting attacked and it is not practical to try and draw a circle around so many. I have about 2 acres I am trying to protect. If those slugs are there in the morning, they are really good at hiding from me. I have been looking high and low for whatever critter is doing this.

I wish I had my bug ID book here at work, but alas, I don't. Don't flea beetles do that kind of damage? Diatomaceaous earth will get them.
