DVD Problem

I have an HP laptop with an RW DVE+R DL - CD-RW-DVD RW/R drive.

When I insert my DVD (using HP DVD+R disks and go to my Computer the drive starts to read DVD then switches to CD? This is all using that D: drive. When I double click on it to open I get the message D:not accessible/ incorrect function.

Now it will play a DVD w/o problem. And I have sonic DVD program but that will not read it either?

Any help appreciated.
