messenger platn food

Lilburn, GA

Hi,

When i left the forum about 2 years ago, Messenger was a very popular plant food in DG.
Do any of you still use it? Do you spray it on your leaf cuttings before they root?
thank you:o)

I have heard the name messenger but I thought it was an insecticide?

I just googled and found this: http://www.biconet.com/soil/messenger.html

and this: http://www.edenbio.com/garden/

If it helps prevent disease and stimulates growth and flowering it must be a good thing!

I will be curious to see what others say about this product.

Hi Plantladylin,

I remember that the old AV forum peeps used Messenger but i haven't heard anything new about it.

I still have some that I bought through the DG's co op. I am not sure if it can be sprayed on leaf cuttings though.

This information says to mix it in a sprayer and use it that way: http://www.biconet.com/soil/infosheets/messengerGuide.html but I don't know about using it on African Violets or Gesneriads. I would think it would be okay as long as it's not a real strong solution.

Hopefully someone will come along who uses this product with some advice for you!

thank you Plantladylin :o)

I am new in the past 2 years and I don't know anything about the product.
I haven't heard anyone in our violet club talk about it either. For nutrition I use 1 drop of SuperThrive , 1/4tsp of urea free 12-36-14 and a half cap full of Eleanor's V11.

I am sure there are a thousand ways to grow pretty plants.

Hi All
I have been usinging messenger on all of my outdoor plant for 2 years. it is not a plant food...it is a hormone that is sprayed on the plants to make them think they are being attacked by virus or disease which in turn simulates them to to protect themselves and they turn on their own plant defenses. My roses and phlox have never looked better, most are virtually free of disease, and we have had rain, rain, rain here in Chicago.
Here is the website for more info on messenger
www.edenbio.com
I might try some on a few indoor violets and test it.

Thank you Jill.

The "old" members of the AV forum used messenger but I can't remember their views on it.

I have sprayed my streps and they seem OK. I have also used it on my roses and geraniums but i don't know how they would look without it so I hope it is helping them.

Thank you for the link.:o)
