I have been discussing colors of guineas with some "so called" expert. I have concluded that my guineas ... 4 of them are almost certainly a newly discovered color. They are a nearly white color but have the faintest creamy buff coloring to them and just the fewest visible dots on just 2 feathers on each wing. I've looked at the color chart and my keets are 50% lighter than what they refer to as Buff or Buff Dundotte. Even my Guinea roo is a step closer to white than what the experts call Buff. Anyhow ... my color is called PLATINUM. Blonde is a color name I was incorrectly told nearly 2 years ago for birds that are a color between chocolate and buff. There must be closer to 25 specific colors of Guinea Fowl due to sub-colors being present. It is fascinating to be honest. Who would have dreamed there are so many colors of guineas? I have to publish this information to make the color name legal and thereby prevent the money grubbing experts from naming their discovery as Platinum. So this is it ... I'm a copyright expert so I know publication in any format or media is valid and legal. Information is cool when you know how to use it. Kelly in Moxee
PLATINUM colored Guinea Fowl
AWESOME!
My guinea hen with keets is a bit too motherly. Last night she ditched me .... kinda split early .... for the 1st time and I couldn't find her. This morning she showed up minus 1 keet. Gotta look to herd her to the night box sooner. Lost one of the three Platinum keets ... only luck I have is bad luck. Kelly in Moxee
Oh gosh Kelly......I am sorry you lost one. I sure hope you can get a hand up on her so she doesn't go hide on you again!

Great news today. My 2nd clutch of Helmeted Guinea Fowl eggs is hatching. I have 5 little keets so far with 5 more eggs to hatch. The Guinea Fowl cock - father is the uncommon PLATINUM colored roo in my flock. Today we have a little one that looks to pure White. In addition there is another that is Buff or Buff Dundotte. I also see one that is Pied or Royal Purple with white flight feathers (both are technically Pied). The other 2 are Pearl Gray. This broods is gonna have a high % of survival rate too because I have a Game Fowl hen doing the mothering. I won't have to be worried about a hysterical Guinea henwalking off with her keets at dusk to hide in the shrubs.
Interesting point about the 2 previously mentioned keets is they are 1 color step to the right and left of their father. Their cock - father is so close to White .... it is incredible. This PLATINUM roo is the dominant roo in my group of 8 guineas (6 hens). I have an older roo (his father is a Pearl) but the PLATINUM roo is in mostly charge. I haven't been able to find Guinea Fowl eggs for more than a month. Kelly in Moxee
My Game Fowl hen has been wandering about our 2 acre fenced yard with her little brood of just 4 now; 1 died in the nest the1st night. Each day I have to periodically check her. It seems the Guinea Fowl hen loves to walk by her (with her keets) and it always happens .... 1-2 of the newest keets runs off with the older group of keets with their Guinea Fowl mother. The Game Fowl hen behaves like she's totally peeved when I walk outside to look at her and the clutch. This afternoon she was missing her Platinum keet ... he was with the other older group. The older group is a week older and significantly larger in size. The little ones do find it tough to keep up with the older group. The Guinea hen and her brood came right up to me the 1st time I took the new keets and their foster mom out of the nest and placed them in the yard ... she took away 3 keets ... immediately. The Guinea hen looked really happy to have the extra keets in her clutch. Like she was a new mom all over again. She walked away as fast as she could lead them all. It is humorous but could be tragic so I check on them regularly.
they are so cute, just not good mamas...
lol get pictures

They won't let tf into the country, josh. We have some kind of treaty with Australia--no Chicken Fairies or their representative are allowed to breach the great barrier reef or any coastal waters either by ship or air. So you are safe--at least under the current administration.
lol the great barrier reef dosent cover nsw which is my state
But New South Wales does have a coast, so you are covered under the "coastal waters" provision. Which is a good thing, because Australia could easily be over-run by Buckeyes after they eat all the smaller wallabies and impact the dingo population.
lol u know a lot about australia not many americans know much about us because we are boring and isolated from the world
Australia is very "in" in the States. There are Australians everywhere! You can hardly turn over a rock (or is it turn on a TV?) without an Aussie popping out:0).
And then there are those lovely Black Australorps!
lol i didnt think we were that popular
:0)
eriously because right now your politics are all over the news and i didnt think u guys would even know the leader of our country well that shows u cant belive every thing we see on tv dosent it catscan

Hey Josh in the land of Auz,
I have cousins in VIC near Melbourne. They are descended from my 2 gr grandfather's older brother and sister. I've been in contact with a cousin from Scarsdale, VIC. We all have the same 3gr grandfather.
I have 2 Akubra western hats. Looking to buy a 3rd or maybe a Barmah. I have 6 western hats altogether, a couple Stetson and a Beaver Brand plus the Akubras. I like some (not too much) western clothing ... I have Luchesse boots ... a bit pricey but well made.
I'll get some pics posted today of the keets and their mothers.

sweet thanks Kelly, I am excited to see their color.
Actually, I loooved Steve Irwin and cried when he passed. I adore Australia and it's wildlife. The man from Snowy River.....awesome! Rabbit Proof Fencing...great! My favorite dog breed is the Australian Cattle Dog, I even have one named Zeppelin (after my favorite band), wish I could own a dingo, but you can't take them out of Australia. Australian accents are sexy!!!!!!! I would like to live there someday! Barrier Reef......Awwwwwwwwwwwww : )
Josh & TF, Here is a photograph of the Guinea Fowl hen and her remaining 4 keets (1 drowned). You can sorta tell the 2 in the foreground are Royal Purple, the 1 in the back is Pearl Gray and the last is Platinum. Notice how they're stretching out their necks ... kinda cute! Kelly in Moxee
no image ..... odd

please try again!
Josh & TF,
This time the upload was successful. I'll try to post 2 more. The Game Fowl hen had some of her brood birdnapped 3 times today. I'm lucky the guinea hen doesn't have real motherly feelings toward the smaller keets the apprehends. I'd be in hospital if I had to try to grab 1 of her 4 keets. Be forewarned. Guinea hens are murderous when it comes to their babies. This photo was over by the back yard cottage I tinker on in the daytime for my son. Its his own bedroom in our yard just 100 ft from the house with his drum set there for my sanity. He's a serious drummer. Kelly in Moxee
wow. i can't wait to have keets again. it's been TOOOOO long...
Wow, those are really 'cool' looking guys! Never raised Guinea. Maybe something I will look into for next spring.
cool realy goos pics
Anyone,
I just got an email from the PhD of Vet Med Phil @ VT.edu who wrote a 2-3 page long essay on guinea color genetics which is posted at guineafowl.com ... anyway he basically said he was quite interested in the new color; so I sent him images I had posted here. Teachers of veterinary medicine are a bit more interested color genetics than the average VMD. A friend of mine locally who does cat hysterectomies .... all day long didn't have express more than a grunt when I mentioned the color to him last year. At the time I didn't understand it was a new color so maybe he'd have more to say today.
I can't believe such an interesting thread (to me has been buried) ..... bump! LOL
