We have lots of skitters here in our area. How do you grow Lemon Balm? I had no luck with it in Raleigh.
And I need a good place to find some.
Lavina
OK I have no luck with Lemon Balm
OMG, that's so funny to me. I grew it once and it reseeded everywhere!
It does reseed if allowed to bloom. I let a large pot of lemon balm bloom last summer and found some tiny plants this spring. I plucked them and put them in a pot. It was blooming last time I looked. LavinaMae ~ for postage to send it, I will gladly share this plant. If you would rather, I will save you some seed. I love the lemon fragrance of it, I'm just not sure it will repel the skeeters. No guarantee there! pod
it sure is a nice plant. I just can't imagine it not growing!
Yes, it is rather like a mint... very durable. I keep mine potted.
when you first plant it water it well dont let it dry out completely and then ....you cant kill it lol. i have one plant and i just got it this spring it looked horrible about 2 weeks ago because a caterpillar mowed it all down it literally munched down almost every leaf and now its bounced back even better than it was before. i think think caterpillar rejunivated it (not sure that spelling is right : 0) .

Maybe pruning by "caterpillar" is the answer ~ LOL
Podster I couldn't even get it big enough for the Caterpillatrs. I would love to send money for postage to get some. How much do I need to send.
Lovesdaylillies, I put some in Mom's back yard in Tallapoosa and it went wild till the Deer ate it . It has been a surprise that deer eat it, but in West Ga. there is a overabonduce as you well know of deer and coyotes. Deer are also eatiung her blueberrys this year.
Lavina
oh yes the deer will eat most anything : 0 my dad landscapes and a few years back in fall he planted like 230 flats of pansies in a subdivison in carrollton and the people called in a few days and they were all gone : 0 he planted them again and the to the same fate and this time they just gave up.... the deer were enjoying them a little too much! also my daddy loves daffodils and has a yard full of them 2 years back they were amazing until he woke up and they were all gone he has pictures of the deer in his yard. he lives way off the road and they feel safe i guess as daddy wouldnt hurt a fly. last year i went to visit my mom and thought she had lost her mind when i walked out to the garden and saw rope around the whole bed with irish spring soap hung on it as well as pie pans! i had to ask what in the world she was thinking as she said "darn deer keep eating up my garden , someone told me they wont get near soap especially irish spring and the pie pans make noise and scare them when the run into them. ROFLOL
LavinaMae ~ sending you a dmail...
Podster got it and answered.
Loves day lillies, do you also have Chipmonks and armadillos like Mom. They were everywhere last October.
Lavina
yes we do have lots of chipmunks which are so cute but unfortunately our cats kill every one they see and we have had 1 armadillo in the yard.
I just had to rip out all my lemon balm because it was taking over, and I started it all from ten single stem clippings three years ago. This year I couldn't take it anymore, and when I dug it up there were the thickest wooden roots I had ever seen on such a thin stemmed plant. I planted it in the poorest soil possible too, I don't know how it made it.
yup. That's what I'm saying!
I guess keeping it containered has prevented any problem. In years past, I cut back blooms so no volunteers.
