orange mint questions, help please

Edmond, OK(Zone 7a)

This is the first year I have grown mint so any advise is welcome. I read that mint is invasive so I planted some mint and orange mint in hanging baskets. They are doing wonderful and are a favorite - we have used much of the orange mint as I didn't plant as much of it. Now all of my mint has runners coming off them and hanging down. I am assuming this is how they spread. How do I share the mint? Do I just divide the plant itself? Should I cut off the runners or just leave them alone? Also, will the mint survive over winter in the baskets or should I bring them in - I have a sun porch? I know I have many mint questions but I love it and can't wait to expand my varieties. Thanks!

You can root the runners, or alternatively, you can snip off a section of mint with 4 leaf nodes or so, and root it in water, and then plant it. In your zone, you will probably wish to grow it indoors over the winter, possibly under lights. If you leave it outdoors, it will drop all it's leaves, but put out new growth the following spring.
(And if you wish to trade pineapple mint cuttings, for some of your orange mint cuttings, please let me know, I'm looking for some:)

Thanks cyra! I am going to try to root the runners - I have tons of them. I would love to trade, but will have to wait as we ate most of my orange....had a mojito night. I will be posting how I've managed with these. Thanks so much!
