Remember the Unusual Seed Swap 1 & 2 we did last year????

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

Here is the info for this years unusual seed swap:
Since there is such a hearty response here I will set up the rules of the swap here for you.
Anything unusual goes! Hardy, tender, veggies from France(hehe), etc.
Minimum seeds per packet is 5. Feel free to include as many seeds as you want. I use about an 1/8 of a teaspoon for mine.
Mark your seed pack with your DG name, the name of the seeds, and growing info.
There is no minimum or maximum. You can send 1 packet or 100! Please, no more than 20 of one type.
Send return postage in the same amount as it costs you to send to me, plus an additional dollar for a fun surpise. If it costs you $2.50 to send, then enclose $3.50 for return postage. PLEASE no stamps, send cash, check or money order or paypal it using gardenbabe@comcast.net as the sending address. This is necessary so I can print postage and have a record for both of us. ATTN: International participants, you can send stamps...
Make sure you enclose a list that says what you have sent and how many of each. Optionally enclose a wish list, the kind of seeds you would love to receive.
Last year I hosted 2 unusual seed swaps and had GREAT results. I see lots of return participants for this year too!

So lets get started..........................
Send to me between now and Sept. 15th. I think this will give us plenty of time to get our seeds together. Im drying some unusual ones right now!
This will overlap with my yearly bulb swap. If anyone wants in on that fun event please email me personally and include your email address so I can send you a link to the bulbswap group to get all the info, see pics of last years offerings, and fill out a haves and wish list. We had about 20 participants and I divided up and sent out over 150 different varieties, nearly 2000 bulbs! What a neat way to get more bulbs!!! Hope to see you there!
Theresa

My original start of this thread:
Last year I hosted an unusual seed swap that had lots of participants and lots of seeds exchanged. Im writing today to ask those participants how their seeds turned out. I had about 70% germination and am really enjoying the unusual plants I now have.
One of my favorites is the moroccan sea holly! The leaves are awesome! I cant wait to host another one this year.
Im looking forward to hearing from some of the others too.

I sure do remember - darn, I just planted the bat-plant seeds! But I have other unusual seeds I can share :-)

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

I would like to participate too, if another one is being organised!

I can't remember just what seeds I got from those trades. I didn't keep a list, should have. I did have many unusual seeds to plant this past spring, some germinated very well, had more than I needed, sold the extras at my Garden Club plant sale. Others I got just a couple. Some didn't germinate at all. Had a wonderful time trying everything tho and I still have plants I have not managed to get into the ground yet. Am looking forward to paticipating in the new trade this year.

Hi Tuink! If you're in, you know I'm in! BTW, the Silene maritima we traded for bloomed-didn't think I'd get it to do that in this zone.

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

Im really looking forward to hosting the swap again because I love unusual, and there are so many cool plants I have never heard of until I had the swaps last year. It was really fun. Over 25 garden nuts participated and it sounds like many are enjoying them as much as I am.
Happy gardening...Theresa

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

Fauna, they did already! Mine took their sweet time to flower: 3 years!

Sinking spring, PA(Zone 5b)

3 years- You are patient. Well, it's only been 2 flowers so far on one plant. This is a hot climate for them, yes? I have been keeping them in the shade until maybe October, and I am planning on keeping them containerized. Where did you plant yours?

Oh I would love to re- participate to. Thanks.

What kind of unusual seeds are you growing Rebecca?

Fauna,

It's in a shady spot in front of the little pond. Mine only gave two flowers in the first year. But this (second) year there were dozens!

Chesapeake, VA

I would like to participate.

Fair Grove, MO(Zone 6b)

Me too. I really enjoyed last year.

What does this group consider unusual?
I have mostly unusual vegetables.
But even they are not too strange to collectors.

Potagere

gieten, Netherlands

I would say unusual is "not mainstream" as in "cannot be found in every garden or garden center"........

Roermond, Netherlands

I'm since a few weeks subscribe member of DG. and like to join in for the swap.
Please let me know when it starts!!!

Ok, Ive got some real odd balls this year! Im ready lol!

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

This is plenty exciting! I will work up the details and we can begin in a few weeks!

Here's a pic of one of my new tango lilies, they are so awesome!

Since I see several other Europeans here, I'd like to join if no one objects that MOST of what I'll contribute will be vegetables. Do we need to provide a list ahead of time?

Downers Grove, IL(Zone 5a)

MMMM. Unusual seeds and french vegetables too! Count me in!

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

potagere.....no list needed beforehand, you can send a list with your seeds. I think veggies from France will be a neat addition!
Looks like this years unusual seed swap will be even bigger than last years!!!

I’m not sure how this swap works, but I’m a sucker for unusual seeds and I’d love to join in too! I don’t have large quantities of my seeds though…will that still be workable?

's-Gravenhage, Netherlands(Zone 8b)

No doubt Theresa will tell us all how this works when we're really getting started......

Potagere, I don't mind veggies. I can always use some more for the edible garden!

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

I plan on trying a garden for this year and would enjoy some different veggies, that sounds like a plan to me :)

Theresa, what are those flowers in that last picture and those Tango Lilies are really pretty, are those other ones lilies too?

I'm not sure if I will have much that is different lol

Marine City, MI(Zone 5a)

LeBug....the 'black' lilies are called Lantini. They are so dark and pretty! You had plenty of unusuals last year, so dont worry!
SunnyG....you dont need a large quantity to join in the fun!!!

Heres a pic of my starfighter lily....its awesome this year!

I've always wanted some lilies like that but the wind gets so intense on this hill, this year I have grown more tall plants and my gardens are full of stakes, I'm tired of being without the taller plants that I love lol

I think the next time they have a lily coop I'll join in for next year lol

Downers Grove, IL(Zone 5a)

How many seeds should I plan on sending?

When I was in the States early this Spring, I bought some bulbs of 'Black Out' Lily at Lowe's. By the time they were ready to be planted out, I realized I still did not have a apce prepared for them. So I put all 6 bulbs in a large pot to sprout out while I got organized. Well, nit to put too fine a point on it, I NEVER got organized, so they are still in the pot, and on their 2nd bloom! Magnificent all grouped together like that! Although the photo does not do justice to their deep color.

Wow, beautiful! Just say you meant to do it ;-)
