Beautiful specimen in Central Florida

Altamonte Springs, FL(Zone 9a)

This beautiful 12 to 15 foot red plumeria is doing well in Central Florida. If we don't get a freeze this winter it will be like one in our back yard in Kaneohe.

Very lovely indeed Clifffff

Beautiful! If you hear a frost warning ahead of time, you can cover it with a sheet or a blanket or even a tarp to protect the tips. Some people use socks as well.

This is from the red Plumeria pictured above. I do not know the names of any of my Plumerias.......Wish I did.........

and my remaining nameless beauty.........Frankly, I don't need names to enjoy their beauty and fragrance...........

I agree, Cliffff. I have even learned to love the blooms of the wildflowers. Too much stress on this old brain to have learn Latin.

I do see the need though.

Socks! No kidding? Bet that causes some looks. Makes sense, though, if you're trying to protect the tips.

That's a very lovely red bloom, and I'm with you, no need to know the name to like the flower!

I agree. Names don't add to the enjoyment of a flower;-)

Kathleen, yes, I've head that some people do that with socks. I've also heard about paper towel or toilet paper rolls over the tips:-)

And how do you propose I put a sock on a 15 foot fragile tip?? Seriously, what I have done in the past when I know there is going to be a damaging freeze is to break off some limbs that probably should come off anyway and put them in the garage.....and start all over again next year......I consider a good frost or freeze natures way of pruning particularly with my overgrown hibiscus.
As to names........I believe Aspirn has another name but I couldn't care less.......that's for the experts and the needs to know type......I am but a spectator and admirer in Mother Natures wondrous and marvelous garden.

Oh, what beautiful plumeria flowers. Hoping someday I will have lovely blooms like that.

Orlando, FL

If I ever left home...I would have to sneak to your house and beg a cutting. That red is so pretty. I had not seen one that color yet. Very pretty plumerias indeed.

Thanks for the pics too....so fun to see. I have a dark pink that is from a cutting it is almost 2 feet tall now...I was not convinced I could get it to go...but it is looking good.

Names are nice to know if you can garantee the cv to be correctly identified
Point is, if you love em enjoy em
Lovely tree man

Cliffff, I used to try to cover my plumerias and the wind would blow so hard it didn't do much good and so I just dont do anything and they survive so I wouldnt worry about them . I am in Orlando and I dont think it gets any colder up there than it does down here does it ? Fran

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Fran, it looks like you might be in Zone 9b where as Cliff is in 9a. Both areas freeze, but a plumeria might come back from a freeze in Zone 9b if it was mild and short.

Orlando, FL

Clare,
Yes, that is true . They only last maybe two hrs or so. Both of you have such beautiful Plumerias. I still can't get mine to flower very well. They grow tall but not that many flowers. Fran
Here is one of my favorite flowers this yr, A morning glory bush. Blooms all time opens in the morning and such large flower. I would like to have the pink one also. Fran

Hi Dee, Y
Yes, I would like a white one. I just cut the tops off and put in wet soil or just water and they root in the matter of a week or so. Fran
