Japanese Beetles LOVE corn leaves...

Poughkeepsie, NY(Zone 6a)

Last year they were really bad, this year no different. I got 2 traps set out right now. They seem to LOVE corn plants and burning bush leaves.

Another bad JB year.....

They're awful, aren't they? Such pretty bugs, but soooo destructive.

We saw our first one a couple days ago. We walk around and pick them off and toss them in a cup of soapy water (then bury them). You must keep them off your corn SILKS or your corn won't pollinate. Another thing that works is spraying with clay (kaolin as in the product "Surround") - if you spray as soon as you see ONE single JB, it will discourage them. Once one JB sets on a plant, they lure others.
