Polygonum Aubertii Question ( Silver Lace Vine Clematis )

Westville, IL(Zone 5b)

I purchased 2 of them and I know they are rapid growers and that they get big.....what I don't know is what to train them to....I have a 5 foot Chain link fence wich should pose no problem....the placement for the other is a 7 foot wooden fence. I am not sure what I can attach to the fence inteslf for the clematis to twine on.....any help would be fantastic....

Chicken wire attached to your wooden fence with a staple gun would work great and its very inexpensive.

Thanks.....also, i have a piece of older lattice that came from the porch I re built.....Are the wodden stripps too large for it to twine around?....I know some Clematices have difficulty with large diameters....I just don't know a thing about this stuff.....other than it can become a monster if not tended to regularly...

Thanks again

I would recommend chicken wire for the Clematis. It's much easier for the vines to wrap around, but then again I don't know the diameter of your stripes of wood. You'd have to cut them pretty thin for it to work.

Silver Lace Vine is a very large and aggressive. Please be aware of its growing requirements before planting it.

I love to flirt with disaster...lol The benifits should far outweigh any issues with it....( I hope ) Your right....I will go with the wire. It should cover it quickly enough that my Mom ( It is her garden ) won't gripe about seeing the metal...

Thanks again, now my mind is at rest. I can out him in the ground and know that he will grow correctly.
