I ordered 2 hoya linearis from Exotic Angel in Florida and they were due to be delivered today. When I checked the tracking info, it said they were delivered yesterday and left on the front porch. Well there was nothing on the front porch yesterday. I called UPS and was told they were delivered and they would call the driver to see if he remembered leaving them. Anywho he had gotten the numbers turned around and delivered them someplace else. All is well I just received my hoyas and I can exhale now!!
Blessings,
Awanda
Plant scare....whew!!
ooh! that is a gorgeous hoya.........It would of been a shame if it ended up in someone else's hands......unless ofcourse it were mine :) !!!
Glad you got it safe and sound.

That is really a nice Hoya! I didn't know you could order direct from Exotic Angel? I used to be able to find the EA house plants at Home Depot, Lowes, Target and Wal-Mart locally but for some reason none of those places seem to have them anymore. I would love to find a H. linearis.
It's beautiful Awanda, congratulations; I'm glad you were able to get them back.
Lin, I called today they are temporarily out of stock =(
I was told they it's going to take several weeks.
Nice Awanda. I could kill that one easily!!!!
I also just got a Linearis from EA. I was the one who emailed them asking if they would post some on their site for ordering and they did but they didn't last long.
I also asked about another hoya and they said in a couple weeks they would be ready so if anyone is looking for a certain Hoya they have just email them and ask like I did.
Shipping wasn't bad at all, for me it was $6.83

I have one of their speckled lacunosas growing like gangbusters.... in the past I have always killed EA plants. The secret is watering! I have watered it once since last November!!!! It is usually so humid here those water crystals never get dry.
I think I will check it today!!!
My shipping was only $7.57, they can afford to ship ground because the plants hardly ever dry out.
Blessings,
Awanda
Most of my hoyas are the common EA plants. I had no idea they were selling on line now. Glad to see that. I put that H. linearis on my wish list - will keep watching their site to see when they get them back in stock. I'm sure postage wouldn't be much since they are right here in Florida.
I just got back from the grocery store. I've been wanting to get a Hoya lacunosa for my first Hoya . . . they had a Hoya lacunosa plant in a 10" pot for $12.99. I didn't get it 'cause I thought grocery stores over price their plants. But, looking on the EA website, I think I need to go back . . . the Hoyas listed are in 8" pots, and start at $15.47 . . .
Syrumani: I think $12.99 for the 10" is a good deal. I think that's what our Home Depot sells them for and Lowes sells the same EA plants in 10" baskets for $14.97.
You should go back and get that lacunosa ... you will Love it! The fragrance is absolutely wonderful in the evenings!
Syrumani, That's a good price for a 10" pot. Around here they're around $15.00 and I also think you'll love the lacunosa, Mine is hanging at my kitchen window and it's been blooming for months now.
They have a really nice scent also but after a while I don't notice it anymore.
Syrumani: You are now officially hooked! Wait until you get your first blooms ... you will be wanting another ... then another ... and ... ^_^
Awanda, you lucky duck! I have been coveting an EA H. linearis for several years. If anyone finds them available on the web site, I'll gladly send money and a box of Hoya cuttings. I wrote EA about the linearis and they replied that they would try to send a notice when the plants are listed again.

Hi, you guys, I wanted to share with you all that I have 2 Bella Hoyas, and they never stop blooming for me! They live in a garden window, with plenty of bright light! I just love em, its so nice to walk in my kitchen and smell the sweetness of my 2 Bellas! They don't let me down at all! And plus the fact that they are Exotics, from Home Depot, in Washington, here in Federal Way. Thanks again Melodie
I found this old thread with a picture of exactly the Hoya (1st picture at start of thread) I bought about a month ago - I'm sort of new to Hoya collecting and have had good luck with the other (4), different varieties I have, but this one looks terrible. I'm not sure if it was over watered or got too much sun - it started shedding leaves and lost about half. Any thoughts? Thanks.
If you got it from EA it has wetting crystals in the soil...so you don't need to water it much. I water mine from the bottom (I put the pot in a saucer) until it is moist on the top. Lourdes sent me a beautiful plant and it has almost doubled...
I am a master at killing them, tho'...this way seems to work for me.
If you have only had the linearis for a month, I'd say the damage was done before you ever got the plant. In my experience, once the plant starts to show signs of decline, there is little you can do to save it. If you have any healthy stems left on the plant, I suggest that you take as many cuttings as you can and root them. Saving the plant at that point is pretty futile.
Good advice, Mel!
Im trying yet another new way to grown H linearis, and sooooooooooo far, it seems to be working to grow it soley in Spaghnum Moss on a plastic pot....more or less dries out then I soak it. I should add that the moss is not allowed to dry to the bone so you have to re soak it in say a bucket of water as you would do if it dried out completely and became completely dry, just to the stage that watering it from above re wets the moss easily. Mind you, Im also having success growing it in my normal mix, but again in a plastic pot, not a clay pot. It seems to be a balance between it staying moist/damp nearly all the time, but not wet. Id also like to say Ive had problem with H bellas I have bought for years, as soon as they get here from wherever, they start to fail. However, from the last disastrous attempt to re house a previously grown elsewhere plant, I took dozens of cutting as the plant failed. I have had all these cutting, seven pots full, growing and flowering like mad and very healthy after I rooted them in situ. Personally ive come to the conclusion that these tricky ones grown in highly specialized, state of the art nurseries dont survive well after you have changed their environment, but if you re root them in the environment they are going to grow in, they seem do much much better.
Just a thought

Thanks for suggestions. I had hung it from a very large basket of a NOID Hoya I bought at a garage sale ($5. blooms all the time) and it is flourishing and the Linearis under it was doing well initially but then I thought since it was almost completely in the shade of the other plant that it might need more light so I moved it to an overhang where it got more light even a little sun - then the shedding began, so that's why I was (and am) a little puzzled. I moved it again back under a large Rhapsallis (mis-spelled) which doesn't get much water basically because it's up high and I forget about it. I'm thinking of moving it again back to it's original location. I looked at it this morning and it seems to have stopped shedding, poor thing, I need to settle on it's location and care. By the way, does this plant - the Linearis - ever bloom? Do all Hoyas bloom? Thanks again - I look forward to opinions while I go put it back to it's original location & hold off on the water.
My EA Linearis I ordered a couple months ago is doing fantastic and putting on lots of new growth. It hangs under an overhang on my front porch facing south and gets watered once a week thoroughly with a water hose unless it rains and the rain gets blown onto it. I have not put any plant food on it since it arrived so I am amazed it has done so well.

wow, that's beautiful Propmaker, lovely blooms. Susan, let us know if you get buds or blooms. I still wonder - do ALL Hoyas bloom? Still not sure, but I'm delighted to know the Linearis does. Thanks.
TXdb,
Yes, all hoyas flower, but not necessarily easily. The Eriostemmas are very hard to get to bloom unless you live in Hawaii, southern Florida or somewhere htat is very warm all year. Most Eriostemmas also require very high light to flower.
All of the higher plants flower.
Mike
