any help would be great

#5 looks like a Buddleja

Did you get trailing ruellia from Emma? #4 looks like it, but it's new for me too and I can't be sure.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

ok thanks!!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

all of emma's were labeled and I have the printed out list she had taped to the boxes that I have been looking up

Jameso has pics of trailing ruellia in plant files, maybe he brought extra. I went outside and looked at mine...they look identical. Is the new growth soft and slightly fuzzy?

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

hang on hobbling out to garage to check LOL

yeah it is nice and soft so fuzzy soft I guess you would say

Well shoot, to add to the confusion mine is labeled Ruellia humilis "trailing" http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/708/ but it looks like Ruellia squarrosa "water bluebell" http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1326/ which looks like yours. Just stick it half sun for now and tell Doug not to pull it up. LOL

If now one claims giving it, get a photo of the open bloom and I'll do the same.
Going to get the kids settled in...be back in a bit

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Doug not pull it ...hahahahaha...he is putting bamboo stakes next to everything we are planting so he doesn't mow, weed eat or pull them including the MG's from Emma along the fence.
he may be alot of grumble but I think he is really enjoying the fact of the plants going here and there as he checks them daily and waters in the am for me til summer school is over this week.

he is the one that said we need to make a map of the palace and write down what is where...so guess what ....one of these days I need ya to come over and help me put names to everything ...hehehe...some i am getting the common names of now that I didn't know before and some I still forget.

Oh and Alicia was reading last night but made sure to go out and check the durata (?spelling..that you gave me) to take pictures of it in bloom LOL

Oops, I do that all the time it's datura...sure you want me to i.d things? lol The only reason I'm trying now is to keep you entertained until someone shows up with the right i.d. :0)

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

but wait a sec I thought you were a guru on it ...LOL..besides your the one that got the neat book Saturday and I have to wait till pay day to order it

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

#2 looks like Cleome http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/121234/
#3 could be regular tall Ruellia brittoniana
#6 is the annual Torenia aka Wishbone flower

I like the idea of using the bamboo for marking all the plants. I have been using surveyor's stakes that I buy at HD for the very back of my lot where I have been planting natives. Lucky you that you have all that bamboo LOL

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

yeah it is nice but one of these days we will run out as it is all cut down LOL

thanks for he id's

Gilmer, TX

mibus, sweezel is right about the torenia, it's the clown mix. I stuck that pot in the car at the last minute and didn't get it labeled. I love those little plants, they bloom all season and look so happy to me. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

#4 is Violet Ruellia 'Blue Bell' (Ruellia malacosperma) Lowes has is marked mexican bluebell but I have had it for years. It is a great ground cover till well it has been about 8 yrs and now is comes up in every pot. LOL But it is beautiful.

#3 is Britton's Wild Petunia, Mexican Bluebell Ruellia tweediana. Very invasive......for me.

Blessings,
Sandy ^8^

Thank you ladies this helps alot !!!

I can mark them common name and technical name too lol

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

I picked up a beautiful, large EE from the sidewalk. It was in a red Folger's plastic can, in water only. Don't know who brought it, or what kind of culture it needs. Can it go in the ground?

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Pam, did ya know the old fashioned name for torenia, is "Happy Faces". no fooling.

Gilmer, TX

Well, that's why they have always looked like such happy flowers to me.

Phyllis, I am so sorry, my stupid dialup connection is still rotten.

#1 is Mexican Oregano, I should have some fully rooted in another month.

Maggi

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

no problem maggi I know how that goes I had dial up but went wireless cause I could never get anything done with getting kicked off all the time.

I knew it was Mexican something LOL

(Maggi) Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

We are a mere 2,000 FEET from being able to get DSL. No satellite companies are currently installing in our area and I have searched and searched for something that's available to us, so far no luck at all.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Maggie, have you tried Verizon?

"eyes"

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

that stinks I went with verizon wireless since that is my cell phone carrier too
At&T sold me dsl when I first got here last year and when the phone guy came to hook up the house phone he saw the box and told me that won't work here the lines for dsl didn't come out this far so I went dial up until I could find something better.

I looked at satellite but the initial set up was more then I could do ....
Hughes net or Wild Blue wont install there?
my daughters BF folks live in Hawkins and have satellite but I think they are in town not in the country.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Patty....the EE bucket was mine. There were about 15 or so in there I think. I put them up from all over my yard. Just as long as they have water and some shade in late afternoon, they will do fine. They may not do well this year, but will winter fine and come up about May next year.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Cool, Sheila! Thank you so much.

I didn't realize there were a lot in there. I just pulled the whole clump out of the bucket and planted it. They're in a semi-shady spot where they'll get plenty of water, but not a lot of sun. Do you think that will work out okay? If not, I have sunnier spots that I can move them to.

Hey, if this keeps up, pretty soon my yard will look just like yours, right? :) Well, okay, but I can dream!

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

keep dreamin P I ma thinking the same thing someday mine will look as good as everyone else's but I knwo tha tis a long way off with as much area as I have here LOL

Humble, TX

Does anyone know what plant this is? I think I got a few of these from the orphan pile. The faster I can ID it, the faster I can find the "perfect" place for it. Guesses are welcome so I can at least figure out what family it might be in.
My little helper sometimes likes to investigate the plants a little too close so I try to get things in the ground quickly. I was proud of her yesterday for carefully taking all the plants still on the porch and putting them on her little picnic table. That was much better than dumping one out so she can take a little better look at the root system. LOL
Thanks!

Tabitha.... I am pretty sure those were from me too. They are Frostweed, a native, has a white bloom, and gets very tall if not cut as it grows. Those may not bloom this year, but they are prennial and will come back. I have them in shade and sun, both do fine.
Don’t cut the stems until after the first hard freeze. They have a beautiful sculptural formation that looks like ice. Here is a link with lots of pictures.

Butterflies love it too, and it is also a larval host plant to some of the smaller butterflies.
