Wood ashes on bulbs?

Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I collected wood ashes from the fireplace last year and am trying to find a use for them in the garden. I read that wood ashes are good for spreading around bulbs. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts?

Thanks.

It works.....lol. It is a source of organic potassium, and there aren't many. I have either spread ashes around the garden or mixed wood ash in when mixing dirt, fert, compost tea, etc. I know there's a limit somewhere on how much you can use but I've not burned anything yet.. A former neighbor told me his grandmother scattered ash in her garden every time she cleaned out the fireplace and never showed any damage. It's easy, safe to use

This explains it better than I can. A very little bit goes a long way.

We use our wood ashes to melt snow on the driveway. I don't know what chemical in there makes the snow and ice melt but it does work.
