carnaby close up

carnaby is a nice twist on the pink and whites. the wide white outer margin of the sepals makes it really pop in the early morning and the evening.

Very pretty, niobe!

My "Carnaby" has not bloomed and it's VERY puny. I fertilize it and keep its soil moist, but it just sits there. It's been like that for several years! What's your secret to growing "Carnaby"?

to be honest, it has been a bit neglected. last year it bloomed very little. ( first full season with me) but this year i noticed it was coming on strong. it had a god fall fertilization and we are in a very rainy month,so it may be the amount of water. it really pops when light is poor..cloudy etc.

I planted Carnaby last year and mine isn't doing much either. Someone stomped on it last year and broke it down to the ground and it "hid" the rest of the summer. It came up this year but is very small.

some clems in my zone take longer than 3 years. esp if very smalliners when planted out. 5 is more like it.
perrins pride took 5 years to have any kind of a decent display. carnaby slow too.

I guess I got my answer here about Clematis "Perrin's Pride"..I am hoping it gets vigorous faster with me being in a warmer zone...glad to see pics of Clematis "Carnaby"..I planted 2 of her this past Spring and she is already blooming and growing very well...Jeanne

Some Clematis are just slow growers. "Carnaby" seems to be one of them.

I've had "Carnaby" in the ground for probably close to 5 years, growing in the shade, and I am fertilizing it a lot this year. Maybe it will reward my efforts with some blooms eventually.

Jeanne: You've just got the magic touch with Clematis. Since all your plants in your garden are growing in "black gold" (mulch), plus the hot Texas sun and abundant rain, maybe that's your secret.

Shirley..I sure hope so..I've got 12 new ones coming from Chalkhill and 3 still in pots that I've got to figure out where to put..woe is me!!

Is a gardener's work ever done? I constantly say that my garden is "a work in progress", which leaves that discussion open ended indefinitely.

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

OOOOoo...I like that ..mind if I steal your quote to use on him..LOL...Jeanne

Go right ahead! Copying is the highest form of flattery!! :~)
