If you are in the Sherman/Gaineville area & have some extra compost you want to get rid of Dmail me please! I started this no-dig garden & it takes more compost then I had, plus wiped out all my nieghbor's & have bought 200lbs. for Home Depot & still need about another 200-300lbs. or 10-15 cubic ft to finish off my garden. So LMKP if you have some you want to sell & I'll be more then happy to pay you for it & come haul it off. Would greatly apperciate it - it's $4-5 for 25 lbs at Home Depot & don't want to spend another $75 to $100 just for compost! Especially when I had until 2 yrs ago 20 head of longhorn darn near in my backyard & all I had to do was hop the fence & get it - paying that much for it is crazy out here.
Got a small problem - anyone got any extra compost ?
There are places that will sell compost and mulch by the truck load. I'm sure it would be a better deal than Home Depot.
Try google or yellow pages for your area.
Do you know anyone with horses that might let you have the used bedding?
I'm not in your area, but I really like the idea of used horse bedding! I've got some folks at church who have horses. Think I might hit them up for their used bedding! Thanks for the idea!
Prickle, Like your idea about the horses as I live in the most heavily horse populated county in the world (horse to person ratio is at least 3 to 1 here) but I'm afraid that being a horse person that there might be too much nitrogen in their waste. Most horses here are fed a diet of not only pasture but grain & also alfalfa or preium coastal hay which would make the nitrogen content too high for composting w/o other materials. Need to find a good dairy farm somewhere - that's where most fertilizer comes from. They are also fed grains & pasture but w/ 4 stomachs cows process their feed differently than horses (believe me I've shoveled probably 20 tons of the crap in my lifetime) but thanks for the suggestion. And the search goes on.... Happy Gardening from N Texas
Try Craig's List.
Thanks Dean_W & Prickle - I finally found a friend who has cattle & clean pasture & told me to bring the truck over & go for it - said I was welcome to all I want to haul off & she has a good pile that is well -seasoned so I guess I'm off to spend my 4th shoveling crap...LOL just another day in the life of Catss. Happy 4th of July y'all & Happy Gardening
Happy 4th! Have fun shoveling!
The next time someone says they had a "Crappy day" you can smile and say you did too, and were thankful for it :-) How lucky to get FREE compost! :-)
Yeah nothing like shoveling crap to get your life back into prespective! Could have it worse - could have to do it for a living! Anyway got 400 lbs. of top grade compost(clean grazing field & been sitting for years - beautiful stuff you never see at a garden center) for a few hours sweat - now just got to put in a few more hours shoveling it into garden - we gardeners are machosists at heart I think - who else would put their hands in cow poop & sweat every day just to have nice gardens - MACHOSISTS(hope I spelled that right...LOL). Anyway happy Gardening to y'all & have a nice day
