I don't know what happened it was fine last night but we did have thunder storms go through after midnight.
my other 3 are just fine...one is still flowering one is getting ready to and the third one is still putting out leaves but this one I got back in April was just starting out and I just found it broken off like this..
well I looked and saw it was missing went over to where I have the pot and it was laying outside of the pot and the top I found in the yard.
can it be saved?
if so what do I do now?
it is a yellow noid I was hoping to id once it bloomed.
help???
Help what do I do now?
The top can be grafted but is too small to root. You could make two plants out of the top if you have the root stock. You can repot the bottom portion and cut the top at an angle so it is nice and even. New branches will sprout from nodes below your cut. It will be fine, but you will probably not see flowers this season as it will be busy putting out new growth.
Just as a side note, it is nearly impossible to identify flowers from pictures so it will most likely always be an unnamed yellow, but many of my favorites are unnamed yellows.
Hopefully, you will get at least two branches that will sprout, and you might even get more than that so try not to be too distressed. I've had accidents like that from the wind, and the break usually produces even more branches than I had before.
ok so make a nice smooth cut for the top of the main piece ...got it and hope for 2 branches if not more
can I graft the top to with the main piece I have left that I am cutting off smooth or does it have to be totally different.
or I find someone with root stock to give them to in hopes of them grafting them and sharing from there.
Thank you Clare !!!!!
okie dokie then I will do my research on how to do grafting then and give it a try
thank you both very much!!!!
Yes, Hetty is right. You can graft the two pieces back together. If they were to fit perfectly together, you wouldn't actually have to cut them at all. Make sure the two pieces are touching firmly either way. Then wrap tightly with electric tape (that is what I use), making sure that there is good contact. I use staples that I push in with my fingers to keep the two pieces together while I am wrapping. They can be removed later. Don't remove the tape for a month or so or until you see leaf growth. Check out the FAQ's Sticky Thread for more grafting tips.
ok am going to see if I can get this done today ...only other q2uestion is the whole cutting was out of the pot and if it had roots coming out of it they are gone or they had just started to break through towards the bottom ....is this going to be a problem?
Do put it back in the soil immediately so that it can continue to root or push out new ones. The graft might not take if it is not rooted. You generally want to graft to something that is already rooted and growing. Growth is essential to the grafting process. Give it a try. You really have nothing to lose. If the graft doesn't take, the bottom portion will push out new branches anyway.
