Hi Carolyn, nice pic but I don't think it is the Azure Damselfly. It might be difficult to identify it with this pic, a good close up is best to see the finer details.

I found a list of damselflies in Texas, if you look under Coenagrionidae there is 48 species with pics. I had a look at a few and there are so many which are similar, lol, I gave up. With so many unless you have a good close up or specimen in hand it is very difficult!

Thanks! Wow that's a LOT of species! I have to admire your willingness to even look. Had I known that your undertaking was going to prove that difficult, I would have held off submitting that pic. 48 species is more than a little daunting. This little guy is still buzzing around my water garden - I'm going to take a closer look him, but no pictures this time. Thanks again :)

If you can get a closer pic it would be great! They are difficult sometimes, other times they just sit there! You might need a pic anyway to get a good look, they are like match sticks.

You can dmail kennedyH (BugFiles Admin.) to have the pic removed, or if you can find which it is it can be moved to another entry. Tough one though, lol. :)

Carolyn,
wallaby1 has drawn my attention to this image and the difficulty in identifying it. I have tried myself to get an identity, but despite looking at a large number of Texas damselflies I am unable to resolve it.

I think I shall have to therefore delete the image from BugFiles , while hoping that we may some day discover its identity and be able to reinstate it. It is a beautiful clear image of the damsel,
