Catching Feral Kittens

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

This afternoon I was walking through my garage, and noticed a little tabby kitten sitting on a shelf. It looked like it's eyes were gooped shut. From size I would guess 6 to 8 weeks old. I started walking toward it, and it dashed off, along with another gray blur, that I just saw out of the corner of my eye. So there are at least two of them in the garage. The garage, is just packed with junk, it's only used for storage, and to get access to the back yard. Usually the back door of the garage is left open all summer.
The problem is, I live on a busy 4 lane street, with lots of traffic. I am worried about them getting hit. If they could get used to humans, I have an elderly aunt who would love to adopt them. I put out food and water, they stay out of sight, but mew regularly, and if I make a mewing noise, they will respond, but not come out of hiding.
What do I do, should I start cleaning out the garage, and eliminate some of their hiding spots? Do I leave the garage as is, and try to spend some time out there when I bring out food? Will they even eat prepared cat food? Wet, or dry? I only feed dry to mine, but I can pick up some canned food.

Ideas??

Last fall I caught a little (3 to 4 week old) kitten, that I adopted. She was in the garage, also. So, even though I haven't seen adult cats around, there must be at least a pair of ferals in the area.
Here's a picture of my Miu Miu.
