Invasive plant??

Troy, IL(Zone 6a)

I got this plant last summer. It was a quart size plant and on the almost dead sale plant table without a tag. As you can see, it has grown at least 20 times its original size. I think it is a beautiful plant but it is taking over our berm. I would love to move it but afraid it will turn out to take over the whole yard. Can you help me identify it and should I try to move it or kill it off? It is about 3 feet tall now that it is in bloom.

Yes, Gooseneck Loosestrife, beautifully invasive. I keep it in bottomless pots, away from my regular garden beds, and still keep an eye on it. I started with one plant, and now have 10 pots full.

I wish mine would grow like that!

How can I get rid of this invader? The roots are everywhere and hard to get out completely.

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

A non-selective herbicide like glyphosate - applied according to label directions - can responsibly eliminate this plant.

If it is growing in/amongst plants that you wish to retain, then use methods like the Glove of Death rather than "over the top" spraying to reduce/eliminate off-target damage.
