Bare Tomato Plants

Easley, SC

I have several tomato plants that are now stripped of leaves and appear to have bites taken out of the tomatoes. Only exception is the cherry tomatoes. Would this be from deer? We live in the upstate on 2 1/2 acres and have deer that wander around. New at this. If so, do I need to put up a fence to protect my garden or is there something I can put on or around it that would kind of repel the sweet little creatures. Thanks for all the great info!

Don't know about the deer, but tomato hornworms can defoliate a tomato overnight! They are hard to find since they are the same color as the leaves. One way to know if it's them is if you see little black bits on the ground or on the plant, it's hornworm poop.
