hope this is ok...

A fellow Texas DGer is in need of some help during a difficult time. I was wondering if anyone close to her may be able to offer some assistance? I can help too depending on when and if she moves. Here is the thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/868153/ . I do hope she doesn't mind me posting this, but I know how kind and helpful our DG crowd is here and just wanted to help out.

Kim

I'm so heartbroken at this news. Let me know if I can help. If she finds a place I bet we could get a group together and most of it moved so she doesn't loose it all. She mentioned her father lives locally. Could it all be moved to his yard until she gets settled?

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

I believe that this would be the most appropriate forum to reach help for this member, and I know Texans, and I know in my heart they will rally to help her. Good luck and goodwishes.

i just saw this post and of course i am so glad for any help saving my babies! thank you all so much. i just posted on the other thread, but here it is in a nutshell. i am planning on moving in with my parents for a while and we are going to build some raised beds to hold as many of the plants as possible. some will probably have to be potted up until i get another place. i have had several generous dgers dmail offering help with the the move, and i think David is planning on trying to get some folks together by talking to them at the RU in Jacksonville tomorrow. i am overwhelmed by the response my post had and i am uplifted by the offers of help and the prayers of goodwill. thanks again.

Great!! I know we can get them moved, it may not be pretty, but they'll be alive and more importantly YOURS to keep and move later. Will see what everyone says tomorrow. Take a deep breath, Aggiegrl. It will all workout as it should.

Tracie, I am so sorry for what life puts on your plate right now! It brought tears to my eyes, and I can only pray that you find the strength to get over the hard times as quickly as possible. I wish more people surrounding you would be as understanding and nice and helpful like the DG community.
I hope that the kids will not be affected by this, and that you manage to take all your beautiful flowers from the landlord's garden. As she showed no compassion to your hardship, she does not deserve your hard work and beautiful soul placed in her garden...
And thank you all DGers close by that will have a helping hand for Aggiegrl!

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Several at the RU said they would come and help. We will get this organized and select the time and date soon. Bet with a group of us we can knock this project out in no time.
Aggie can give us a date then we will begin the process.
Pack your shovels and pots as there is work to be done. Maybe we will get carpools organized. This will also give us another chance to meet and chat with new friends.
Detail coming later.

I can't dig or lift anything very heavy, therapist orders, but I know there will be alot of other jobs I can do. Plus I wouldn't want to miss a chance to visit with DG friends again. You hang in there aggie girl, the troops are coming.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Wish I was closer, I would help, but sending my thoughts and prayers your way........these are great, wonderful people, all of them, so you are in very good hands and company!

"eyes"

Waiting for a date, I'll be there.Coming in from the North if anyone would like to ride with.

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Depending on the date I will try to make it too. Anyone know how far it is from Bryan to Lufkin? I am so glad that we are able to band together to help a fellow member. It makes me proud to be DGer. Nowhere else have I ran into nicer people.

Kim mapquest says it is about 2 hours...didn't check yahoo maps they are more accurate

COCOA I'll go along with ya ...hehehe we do good road trips together ...hehehe

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

I should be able to come too if you will let me know the time, date, directions, etc. I don't have any pots to bring, but I have a shovel and can dig :)

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Just a thought y'all, for pots use old butter tubs, 2 liter coke bottles cut in half, old dish pans, etc.... ain't no hill for steppers like y'all. Also, if you visit some of the nersuries they will often give you some of their old pots.

"eyes"

Sure, Mibus ride with me, there is room for others too.

I have a some extra pots around here too and if we are just moving plants from one bed to another plastic bags will hold them over for the trip. I have thousands of those.

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Depending on the date, I may also be able to come help. I have at least 30 gallon pots that I still have not gotten rid of. Cocoa, I can meet you in Grand Saline and would be happy to give Phyllis the front and ride in the back seat (and be able to stretch my legs out).

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

oh wait a sec I might want the back to take a nap LOL...but we need a date as to when I have summer school route until weds. to do till 1:30

That would great, Sweezel. I didn't get to talk to you near enough yesterday:0)

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

And I'd get to see your garden's too! :) I want to see all those garden rooms that you have started (I love the idea of garden rooms) and all the roses you have planted.

Phyllis, LOL I can share. :)

There are a few days in the next few weeks that I won't be available, but hopefully the date decided will not coincide with them. I will be prepared with my sharp shooter, trowel, pots and gloves and maybe a few snacks to keep us going.

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

oh my! you guys are great! i dont have a defineate date right now, because my dad and i have to build the new raised beds and get dirt delivered. i am expecting it to be either the last or second to last weekend of July. i hope it will work out for you guys. it is about 2 hours from Bryan to Lufkin, i should know, drove that route many times coming home from college. :) thanks again, guys, you dont know how great this makes me feel.

Gilmer, TX

Hope it's the next to last week-end as my DH's family reunion in MS. It's a command performance, so no getting out of it.

Onalaska, TX

I may be able to help I'll use the water from the hose over my head every know and again to stay cool. Hopefully our 2 great grand babies will arrive the first 1/2 of July so will wait to see what date it is. I'll either be coming up from New Caney or Lake Livingston and will ask my neighbors for their extra pots. Banana boxes from Brookshire's are terrific for transportating plants, they're strong and have handles - I'll see if perhaps I can get our local one to start saving some for me. As the time gets closer I'll post on itown asking for pots and sure they'll be lots available. I could always drop them off during the week, you're a hr's drive from us up there. I have a few more ideas and will see if it can be done. Hang in there, you'll get to take your plants with you.

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

hey tracie, just found this thread. i didn't think of it earlier, but reading the above posts it occured you'll need containers lol. there is this house over on bynum that has literally HUNDREDS of those black pots landscaping plants come in and they've been there in a huge pile for at least a year. the yard is all grown up around the pile and i know they're not doing anything with them. i have seen people there so i know it's not vacant. every time i drive by i think about stopping. give me a call and we'll go see if we can talk them out of some.

steph

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

oh, and Bryan is pretty much exactly 2 hrs from Lufkin (it's the mid-point in the 4 hr drive to austin). take 21 to crockett, then 7 to 103 and 103 into Lufkin.

steph

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Catlady, were you trying to say you are hoping it's not the next to last weekend because of the family reunion?

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8a)

OK guys let's get organized and get a few details for the project.
Aggie- please try to answer some of these questions so we will know what we are needing to do.
What is the best date for you ? What time can we start so as to avoid the hottest part of the day ? Do we need this to be on the weekend or will a week day work as well ?
How many plants are we going to move and how many will need to be potted up ? For the potted plants, what sized pots will be needed and how many ?
Do we need to do anything to the beds that we remove the plants from so that your landlord will be satisfied ? Do we need to bring plants to fill the voids that will be left?

As you know, no date will work for all of us so just keep that in mind. July 19 and/or July 26 have been suggested. I think 5-6 workers will get the job done unless we just want a social gathering in addition to providing the assistance. That too could be fun.
For me, July 19 will not work as this is when my Granddaughter will make her week with Papa. I am making a gardener out of her and this is a priority for me. If that is best for others that is ok with me.
We can soon get the details of when, how and what all together. Stay tuned for more info.
DD

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

I will go ahead and add that July 19th won't work for me either, as my daughter gets back from summer camp that day. She will have been gone for 2 weeks, so don't think I'd be up for it on the 20th either, because I will want to spend time with her. Weekdays or the 26th are good.

Gilmer, TX

Week days work for me also. The 26th is the family reunion but believe me DD and sweezel will be much more help than I would be, so not to worry if the 26th is the date. Perhaps we can have a replanting party when you get settled in a new place.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh, man! I'm gonna' miss another one. I haven't made it to a group gathering yet.

I went to college at Angelina in Lufkin. I was hoping this would fall on a day that I could make it and stay over to visit with friends there. If the date changes, let me know and I'll make it if at all possible. We leave for cooler climes on the 15th of July and not back until mid August. If y'all are working on the 26th, I promise to think of y'all and try to blow you some cool air from Greenland or the arctic your way.

Good luck. Remember, it's the tough stuff that makes you strong. (Although, I woulnd't mind being tenderized every now and then.) :)

If I plan ahead, weekdays would work for me as well. :) Kim

If we make it a social we could all maybe bring a covered dish and have luch covered too. smockette and I are close to 4+ hours away. I live in Mont Belvieu and would come if I can catch a ride meeting smockette somewhere is ok with her.

I am halfway between Houston and Beaumont.

Blessings,

Just now seeing this thread. I can make it if it winds up being the weekend of the 26th. Besides gloves, a sharpshooter and nippers, I thought I would bring a big cooler(s) with cold drinks, as I know it'll be hot. We could set up an area for refreshments. Maybe someone has a folding table? I have a few camp chairs I could bring.

Also, what about plant markers?

Can some of us come on the 19th to start the job? Us southerners are already committed to go Randy's for the Hou get-together.

Posting this to remind myself to bring one of those pop up shade tents...could come in handy if you have flower beds in full sun:0)
