I have a mid-sized natural pond in which I'd like to grow water lilies. I need information on the way to do that and also to find a reliable resource for them getting them..I am in zone 5b and wonder if they will need to be taken out during the winter. THanks!
water lilies
Check out garden watchdog for best places to order online. Texas Waterlilies is one that has a good rating.
I'm in zone 5b also and I don't remove my lilies in the winter. I pull them up in the fall when they stop looking nice, cut off all foliage and sink the pots in the deepest part of my pond (which is just under 3 feet deep).
Try this pond co-op for lillies on sale!

I have ordered from them before and been very pleased with their plants.
The hardy lilies and marginals will make it just fine for you during the winter without any care on your part. The tropical lilies can be allowed to die back in the fall. Just lift them and seperate out the tubers. Mine did great in a small aquarium inside without any suplemental heat or light. I just put them out again in spring and they are doing pretty well.
